Perry Says Vaccine Order Was Mistake
WSJ ^ | 081811 | ALICIA MUNDY

Posted on 08/18/2011 12:47:22 AM PDT by Fred

Texas Gov. Rick Perry, under questioning from voters in recent days, has switched positions on a 2007 executive order he issued mandating the vaccination of all young girls before they enter sixth grade to ward off cervical cancer.

Mr. Perry's order that Texas school girls receive the vaccine, Gardasil, made by Merck & Co., was overturned by the state legislature and never got off the ground. But it still has roiled conservatives and Christian groups for years.

After long defending the decision, Mr. Perry has apologized repeatedly for the order since launching his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. As recently as his 2010 gubernatorial re-election bid, Mr. Perry touted the vaccine's medical efficacy and the lives of young women it saved.

Slick-Rick called this a 'mistake'.

I'll make sure not to make the mistake of voting for him.

If Malkin's "Governor Gardasil" sticks, Perry could end up slow bleeding through the primaries. Regardless, this issue is not going to go away soon.

Then, when we end up with either President Romney or President Obama 2.0, we will be able to thank the Conservatively Holier Than Thou crowd.

You think $6000 contributions pull this much sway? Each individual can give $5000 adding primary and general election max amounts. I seriously doubt any governor is making major policy changes for $6000.

While I am waiting for my first and only choice to declare her intentions I am weighing the field. I am not comfortable is the slightest with MB, nor Cain. It seems like every week she says something that I can only characterize as dumb. I do enjoy listening to them, but I haven't developed trust in them yet. Now comes Perry, who talks a great game but has some serious warts. Then I hear the irrational hate toward him by MSN and by a surprisingly high number of Freepers. Right now he is the best competition to take out Mutt Romney, who I despise. I cannot and will not make excuses for Perry, but I have to determine if his record would make me compromise my standards if I were to vote for him. So far it has not. Just between you and me, irrational hate does mot sway me.

The order was in 2007...

the article you are citing is from 2009.

If the hazards were known (proven) in 2007 then I might fault Perry for his order, but ...if the issue didn’t come to light until later then not so much.

I guess so was running Gores campaign, being a democrat, embracing Mexico’s open border dream in a official statement by Perry himself and on and on it goes, but now, oh now, he’s got it all right, uh huh ...

You non-Texans need to take a closer look at Perry. This Conservative Republican has spent more time opposing Perry policies over the last decade than supporting them.

Keep reminding us. Most of us aren't familiar with Gov. Perry's history.

BS. A mistake is when you dial a wrong phone number, not force women to take a vaccine.

A mistake?.....now he admits it's a mistake....

I think Freeper Scotswife has some leverage with this!

Her daughter took 2 of the shots and had a bad reaction.

Perry needs to deal with his mistakes.

With his stand on this issue it is clear he is a New World Order facist. Thinks he knows better then we do and now we learn the drug is worse the the bite.

He supports open US borders with Mexico, he is a joke.

I agree with you on Perry. All I can say is every candidate is flawed. There is no perfect candidate. Right now, Rick Perry has the best chance of beating Romney for the nomination.

Get real folks, do you really think Perry would take on this issue in Texas for a mere $6000.00?

Some of you are dreaming if you think the perfect candidate is out there that will never make a mistake and will do every single thing the way you think it should be.

Why so glum an outlook, Poly? How about, "then when we end up with a President Palin, we will be able to thank the Conservatives Who Vote for the Candidate Who Best Represents Our Values crowd."

Just think, Poly. With Palin in the White House you'll get four more years of spam posting about that money-grubbing Palin family and their book signings.

I though we were going to FINALLY get a real conservative to run. We have Bachmann who is the most conservative of all. That is who we should be supporting fully at least until Sarah runs. Perry is not the strongest conservative by far in the primaries. We are acting like he is the nominee already. He is not and we don’t have to support him in the primaries and people don’t need to be called nasty names for not supporting him during the primaries......Now the general is different. Primaries are a time to really use your principles.

Exactly. Very well stated.

Gardasil mandate. Just another honest mistake, like the Texas DREAM Act, TTC, the Texas Emerging Technology Fund and the Texas Enterprise Fund. Those are just honest mistakes too, but he’s all better now. He got religion and wrote a book about it last year.

you know how it is....the stats will most likely show that her reaction is just a tiny blip as compared to the great number that didn’t have a reaction.

When it’s your own kid you don’t look at it as a statistical anamoly.

At the time Perry did this, Merck was pretending they didn’t know about this reaction.

My beef is with Merck.

Did you like the Kelo decision? You would have loved the Trans-Texas Corridor. Texas Conservatives fought this rascal through two terms of Legislature, would have been the largest eminent domain land grab in American history. Perry fought FOR that tooth and nail.

This issue is the one that amazes me most. More specifically, it's the lack of attention to it that's so surprising. Most of the criticisms of Perry are focused on the Gardisil/Dream Act/Guliani/etc. issues, but in my opinion the Trans Texas Corridor far overshadows those as an ominous "tell" of bad things to come, and as a clear "flashing light-siren" warning that Perry, for all his genuine good qualities (just like Bush), is still ultimately a wholly-owned asset of the globalist establishment, the "Ruling Class" as Angelo Codevilla termed it in his brilliant article and analysis this past year.

Once again, we the people are being played, and outplayed, by the ruling elites and their omnipresent media propaganda manipulation machine. And worst of all, most of us seem to love it... /g
