Spoken like someone who doesn’t have a clue. GWB was for amnesty. Perry, contrary to the lies on this site, is not. This accounts for the original “beef” between GWB and Perry. Perry refused to push GWB’s policies on the border and opted for a more conservative one. Upon becoming governor he went to Israel to learn how THEY were securing THEIR border, and came back to see what he could implement in Texas — knowing that border security is the CONSTITUTIONAL JOB of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT and not the state. He has done miracles for us here in Texas and the majority of us — obviously — love him. Perry 2012!!!
What ARE you drinking?
The bad blood between Bush and Perry has NOTHING to do with the border, and the majority of Texans do NOT love Perry.
Many, many of us vote for him as the lesser of two evils.
When we tell the truth about him here on FR, it’s an attempt to avoid having to hold our nose and vote for him again because the opposition is even worse.
DRey, I did not know that and am fascinated Rick Perry observed Israel's border security for a model to implement here in Texas. I can only guess Israel has to have a strong border as they are surrounded in every direction by one after another nation that would love to annihilate them.
I just think that is really cool Rick Perry went there to do that.
I heard Rick Perry once say one of the benefits of having states rights is the ability for states to learn what works and does not work for other states and to have that chance to strengthen what their own states do based upon what they have learned from others.
It seems like Rick Perry truly believes in that principle, learning from another country that needs a strong border to even just survive.
Bravos to Rick Perry for that!
I think when one sees where these articles come from, mostly Bush supporters, RINO’s or the left, one can safely vote for Perry.
What are the choices:
Unelectable Libratarian Paul, Super RINO Romney, a Congressman or two when it is not precedent for a house member to be elected president in modern times or either of two defeated national office candidates: Santorum or Cain either of whom would be a great VP?
All I had to see was how (.)bama shugged him off when he dained to visit Texas to know who I wanted.
And what Israeli tactics did he implement in Texas?
Bush had a pretty simplistic take on immigration. Perry's has been more complicated, involved and evolving. He's learned from Bush's mistakes and talks more shrewdly.
A governor can always blame the feds for not enforcing the laws. Whether Perry would do anything differently if he were President himself, I don't know.
Upon becoming governor he went to Israel to learn how THEY were securing THEIR border, and came back to see what he could implement in Texas knowing that border security is the CONSTITUTIONAL JOB of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT and not the state.
But Perry is quoted as saying:
"We know how to deal with border security, and you don't do it by building a fence." Aug. 28, 2007
He also said, just yesterday:
"You got strategic fencing in some of the metropolitan areas its very helpful. But the idea that youre going to build a wall from Brownsville to El Paso is just -- its ridiculous on its face."
He has a point there, but the language isn't likely to win over critics of porous borders.
Perry said that one of the reasons for his Israel trip was to study Israel security technology. It doesn't look like it was the main reason (more about trade, technology and the economy than about borders).
Perry's tough talk to impress the Israelis and their supporters stateside doesn't necessarily reflect his usual approach to US-Mexico border issues.
