Rasmussen: Perry 29%, Romney 18%, Bachmann 13% (Perry leads Romney by double digits)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | August 16, 2011

Texas Governor Rick Perry, the new face in the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, has jumped to a double-digit lead over Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann with the other announced candidates trailing even further behind.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary voters, taken Monday night, finds Perry with 29% support. Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who ran unsuccessfully for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008, earns 18% of the vote, while Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman who won the high-profile Ames Straw Poll in Iowa on Saturday, picks up 13%.

Texas Congressman Ron Paul, who was a close second to Bachmann on Saturday, has the support of nine percent (9%) of Likely Primary Voters, followed by Georgia businessman Herman Cain at six percent (6%) and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with five percent (5%). Rick Santorum, former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, and ex-Utah Governor Jon Huntsman each get one percent (1%) support, while Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter comes in statistically at zero.

I'll start....Rubio...but the question of citizenship comes up. So, I'm still thinking.

Rubio was born in Miami. You really think the Supreme Court would swear in Barack Obama but not Marco Rubio? Precedent, whether one agrees with it or not, has already been set.

Nothing in the Constitution requires your parents to be born in the U.S.

President Chester A. Arthur's father, William Arthur, was born in County Antrim, Ireland.

Vice President Spiro Agnew's father, Theodore Spiros Anagnostopoulos was born in Greece. In the 1920 U.S. Census, after Spiro was born in the U.S., his father was still listed as a legal alien.

She was a citizen. But if one parent is a foreigner, the law states that the American parent must live in the United States at least five years after his/her 16th birthday BEFORE the child in question is born. Obmama’s mother was not old enough to give Barack “natural born citizen” status, just “citizen” status (supposedly). There is NO QUESTION by anyone, and never has been, that Obama was not a “natural born” citizen. Just a citizen, at best.

The law you are quoting applies only to children born OUTSIDE the United States.

Hawaii was part of the United States when Obama was born and Miami was a part of the United States when Rubio was born.

Citizenship Rules for People Born Outside the United States ...... What are the rules for people born between December 23, 1952 and November 13, 1986? ...... When one parent was a US citizen and the other a foreign national, the US citizen parent must have resided in the US for a total of 10 years prior to the birth of the child, with five of the years after the age of 14.

Why was Rick Perry in it then before he announced?

“Why was Rick Perry in it then before he announced?”

From the article;

“The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary voters, taken Monday night”

Wrong again.

No. I'm citing the "natural born" citizen section for qualifying for president. It has nothing to do with mother delivering outside US. It's US soil. If papa from Kenya, mama must be citizen, having lived five years in the country post age 16 before bambino barack.

Sarah Palin or Flippin bust

"Thank you, Friendofbarack ... err.... I mean, Friendofgeorge!"

These fanatical Palinistas have really jumped the shark.

They care more about worshiping Sarah Palin than they care about saving America from a Marxist President.

Absolutely pathetic!

It’s about time someone took the “lead” from Romney. Let’s hope Perry doesn’t implode.

She hired Ed Rollins, Rollins trashes Governor Palin. First reaction from Bachmann was to fluff it off as no big deal, that`s just Ed.

Bachmann Mailbox overflowing with messages of outrage over Rollins comments, only then does Bachmann feign outrage, demanding that Rollins PRIVATELY apologize.

No apology from Bachmann to Governor Palin.

Personally I believe Michele hired Rollins, and he told her upfront that we have to try and take down Palin. That is just my opinion, but the rest is true.

Other statements that MB has made as well...interview with the Christian Post prior to MB entry...If you do not get in the race, is there any way that you could see yourself supporting a Palin campaign ...refused to answer the question.

Stating that Governor Palin and her are very good friends? We have a pretty darn good idea that this is not true, multiple sources, Scott Conroy, Bristol Palin.

Pretty solid report out couple days ago that Bachmann people on the ground are out in Iowa and SC saying that Governor Palin is this or that, is not up to Presidency, quit her job etc.

They are actually saying that Governor Palin is not going to run and in fact is going to endorse Michele Bachmann.

I have heard of behind the scenes bad mouthing of Governor Palin, months before Ed Rollins comments.

No question that Michele Bachmann has totally disrespected Governor Palin, the evidence is overwhelming.

Michele Bachmann winning re election is due in large part to Governor Palin, not to mention Rick Perry.

NO YOU ARE WRONG! I said that Rasmussen dropped Governor Palin after including her for the longest time. His argument was that she was not in the race.

He then included Perry in the race before he was declared, that is all I said, here is the link from your buddy Scott Rasmussen.

If you truly believe that Perry is closer to Obama than to you, Ingtar, that must make JimRob a Communist-Lite compared to you.

You are really way out there on the lunatic fringe, Ingtar.

“No question that Michele Bachmann has totally disrespected Governor Palin, the evidence is overwhelming.”

I’m sorry, but you have only presented hearsay and opinions. You have not given solid verifiable information. In fact, at the Iowa debate, the question askers attempted to get Bachmann so say derogulatory comments about Palin....she refused to do so and in fact praised Sarah.

I am NOT an apologist/defender of Michelle Bachmann. I like both Sarah and her. I think they would be a good team. Both ladies (and I say that in the best sense of the word) are class acts. Sarah is a little more polished than Michelle....but both are class acts.

No doubt that there are fanatical Bachmann supporters that have gone overboard in doing things to promote Bachmann. However, I see the same thing being done by Palin supporters. I see this as a wash.....guilt on both sides.

If conservative Republicans cannot learn to be civil towards each other....we have already lost the election. By ALL MEANS you should support your choice of candidate, in your case Sarah, and do so vigirously and intensely, but without unsubstantiated attacks agains other conservatives (and the fact that a candidate is NOT your choice doesn’t make them an RINO or liberal). Other supporters of other candidates like Perry, Bachmann, etc. should do the same.

However, I find it very troubling that if we let the rancor build too much in a primary so that everyone is very polorized.....then many will leave the primary mad because their “horse” didn’t win.

I prefer a guinene moral conservative as the candidate. However, I cannot tell you who I think is best yet....except that I think that both Sarah & Michele are more sincere than Perry (he is NOT insencere just less so). Whatever, at the end of the primary, I will not probably get my first choice, when I make it. However, as long as another moral conservative is running, I can suuport that person in a general election.

I refuse to let myself get too polarized in a primary. That is asking for defeat at the hands of Obama in November 2012.

Well you know I could post a bunch of links for you from reputable sites, such as RCP Scott Conroy, C4P have many articles on this very thing, but you know I am just to damn tired.

This here is the best article I have read in a very long time, I loved it from C4P. All the articles are awesome from there...or perhaps you are not a fan of C4P. I never made anything up BTW, but you say what you like...

I shouldn't respond to that because I've been drinking vodka. Good reply, sir. Only problem is Perry is nowhere near the other side. He'll dismantle the EPA in increments and immediately grant off-shore drilling. Please pull up a chair and let's have another glass.

“Sorry, that was the wrong link”

The article you provided was about how Palin may come out on top; something I consider possible and probably will like it it happens. I want her to run....she brings zest and excitment to the race, plus a uique perspective.

But that wasn’t the issue - I am NOT currently in any candidate’s camp at this time. What is important is that, I could not find anything in that article that substantiated the accusations you have made against Michele Bachman. That is the ONLY reason I said anything to you....I’m concerned you are passing along “false testimony” about hearsay as fact. I don’t think it came be reliably backed up. Also, I don’t think such rhetoric is good for the party or the nation. Getting a truly conservative Republican in the office of POTUS is the key goal I don’t want mesed up by ridiculous feuds amoung conservative GOP candidates or their supporters. We don’t want the winner of the primary, as long as conservative, that come out with battle injuries inflicted by fellow conservatives. The battle against Obama is too important.

Judging by the “serious and concerned” comments from some of the posters, this proves that DU isn’t the only political forum where one can find participants without senses of humor
