Texas Governor Rick Perry, the new face in the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, has jumped to a double-digit lead over Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann with the other announced candidates trailing even further behind.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary voters, taken Monday night, finds Perry with 29% support. Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who ran unsuccessfully for the GOP presidential nomination in 2008, earns 18% of the vote, while Bachmann, the Minnesota congresswoman who won the high-profile Ames Straw Poll in Iowa on Saturday, picks up 13%.
Texas Congressman Ron Paul, who was a close second to Bachmann on Saturday, has the support of nine percent (9%) of Likely Primary Voters, followed by Georgia businessman Herman Cain at six percent (6%) and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with five percent (5%). Rick Santorum, former U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, and ex-Utah Governor Jon Huntsman each get one percent (1%) support, while Michigan Congressman Thaddeus McCotter comes in statistically at zero.

You DO understand that both of these have no chance of getting the nomination because they have no chance of defeating Obama? Please tell me that you understand this.
Its really not though.. Its much different then 2007/2008. The field pretty was flat before perry. Did anyone excite you and if they did.. are they electable? Perry is both.
Perry did NOTHING and is already ahead. Trust me, your looking at the nominee.
I would learn how to do a cartwheel!!!!!
The RINOs will not have to show their cards with the softball questions that we have heard so far.
I think that many conservatives want to hear and see a discussion about:
1. Foreign aid to countries that consistently vote against us in the UN.
2. Term Limits.
3. Are any of the candidates going to pursue One-World government foolishness?
4. Any of the candidates object to the establishment of sharia law?
5. Repeal of Obamacare?
Maybe you’re right, but all I heard on FreeRepublic was about his support of Spector. Conservatives refused to support him.
You DO understand that there are enough people who will not vote for a RINO in Conservative clothes that nominating one will mean a worse than 2008 defeat? My comment was on the lack of Conservatives in the race. We have plenty of not so conservative candidates: Romney and Perry being the most prevalent, but not much choice for the good of the Republic.
I guess that you’re right. It’s hard to keep it all straight, Santorum is the one who got dumped in the next election.
Whatever. You may think of yourself as the most important person in the universe. But I can tell you, your views are not shared by the overwhelming majority of conservatives across America. You're way off the tracks and crashing through the woods. No chance of winning jack _____ with that attitude.

Is it truly winning when you elect someone closer to the other side than your own?
The next President WILL BE a woman.. not a (another)rino from Texas or Massachusetts(of all places)..
Getting down to the brass tacks off it....Perry could win big against Obama. I like him. Is he a perfect candidate? No way!
Let’s face it, there is no perfect candidate./p>

The sexist MSM will Palinise Bachmann as soon as the General election starts. They can barely contain themselves now and she’s just trying for the nomination.
Take a look what Newsweak did to her. It’s on a completely different scale than the typical MSM attacks on conservatives.
ROFLMAO!
Just keeps getting more and more hilarious; somehow, I think when Palin isn't included in a poll including ANNOUNCED candidates, it's not Rassmussen's fault for not including her, it's her fault for not announcing.
Was that photo taken before or after Rick Perry was Al Gore’s campaign manager?
Who's your perfect candidate??
I will not vote for anyone who is not conservative. Will not repeat voting for a McCain, again.
Perry is the 2012 election’s reraileur candidate.
I think part of it is “flavor of the month” reaction but I think it also means he’s getting name recognition and it is - at least in the beginning - a positive reaction.
Too early to know if he stays there or falls back to the back, particularly if someone like Palin or Christie jumps in.
