OWENSBORO - Parents take to the classroom and the subject is new student laptops. Owensboro Public Schools kick off parent training sessions Monday informing parents about new technology students get to take home with them.
Each session lasts roughly an hour as parents get to see first hand the new laptops their child will use starting this year. The sessions are being held over the next two weeks at the old Daviess County Public Library, which OPS converted into their new central office.
When they attend, parents must pay $50 for a user fee which will go to cover repair costs to any MacBook Air laptop during the school year. Each laptop comes with a backpack protecting the district's investment of $5 million in stimulus funding.

It will be interesting to see what the school system will do in 5 years when the laptops need to be replaced. Parents sure as hell won't cough up a grand or even half that. Oops..I forgot new TAXES.
I don’t see the right to a public education in the Constitution, much less a right to a laptop.
I'm expecting to read soon that public school kids are being sent home with free ponies.
Haha, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure when Bill has pizza delivered to his History room and the teacher makes him share with everyone. Just wait until someone hacks around the porn blocks and sends out pics to the entire school. You can bet they’ll be bashing computers left and right and who’s going to pay? The local property owners in their school tax whether they have kids or not.
We have free breakfasts for everyone and you wouldn’t be the jump in property taxes. We have a large number of illegals and a large number of low income/liars so the majority also get free lunches.
Apparently, the Mod did not like my Pizza Hut comment.
Guess we'll have to order a veggie pizza for the Mod next time...
I believe you've got your movies mixed up....
It was Spicoli with the Pizza in Mr. Hand's Classroom in the movie "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"...
You are correct, Dawgg.
