Rick Perry was a Democrat until Karl Rove convinced him to switch parties and run as a Republican against Jim Hightower for Agriculture Commissioner.
Perry is always mentioning Reagan... But no Yellow-Dog Texas Democrat who was a chairman for Al Gore in 1988 would have voted for Reagan. Some Democrats would have... but not a leading member of the Texas party.
Perry is just too slick. He is not conservative at all.
A retarded liar in as much as you continually accuse me of calling Gore a Conservative when I clearly did not and you did it again after I called you on your first ‘mistake’.
When you willingly repeat a mistake then you are either dumber than Gump or you don’t care about the truth.
Which are you?
Personally, I think both.
Oh, is calling me a Perrybot supposed to hurt my feelings?
Sheesh...America could do a lot worse.
Lincoln was elected to the Illinois Legislature as a Whig.
Churchill was elected to Parliament as a Conservative. Then as a Liberal. Then as an independent. Then as a Conservative again.
Was that supposed to showcase your wit and intelligence?
I can forgive someone for voting for Carter in ‘76. But I cannot forgive them for voting for Carter again in ‘80. And there is no way I can forgive anyone for voting for Mondale in ‘84.
“Okay, I’ll try asking you. Since you state with such authority that Perry did not vote for Reagan (even though we know he voted for Bush41), can you please provide evidence to support that contention? And I am not talking about your “logic” or “common sense” - I am talking about some source that has Perry telling us how he voted. Otherwise, this is nothing but your personal opinion. “
My post speaks for itself, you’re welcome to not agree.
Readers should note that the poster has been reduced to calling me names, and yet still cannot offer anything other than his opinion couched as fact to support his assertion. Of course if his "logic" were true, then it would follow that no Texas elected Democratic official could have voted for Reagan. I think history proves that a lot of Democratic officials voted for Reagan, especially in the South.
Does this prove Perry voted for Reagan? No, but then I was not trying to prove he did - just pointing out that the poster could not prove he didn't.
There you go again.
In reality Reagan was not a democrat until he re registered in 1962, Reagan formally started endorsing Republicans in 1952, including campaigning for Nixon, against the too liberal JFK in 1960.
1948 was the last time that Reagan voted for a Democrat President.
OMG that was clever!
With you Captain Gardasil groupies in the thread, intelligence is badly needed. But, hey, nobody knows that you’re a dog on the internet... or your RINO candidate.
Thank you...
You know, I am reading the Reagan Diaries, and while he talks about voting for FDR 4 times, I cannot find anywhere where he says it was a mistake, or "repents" as you put it. In fact, in at least one entry, he make is clear that it was never his goal to undo the New Deal (the Great Society was a different story).
ROFLOL!
None.
And your remarks show that you haven’t done your homework.
When a democrat voted Reagan, he campaigned on it, Perry was a dedicated, passionate democrat, who even signed up to stop the Reagan veep from winning in 1988.
It is ridiculous to pretend that the 1988 democrat anti Bush party chairman was actually a secret Reagan/Bush supporter. It is childish to play such games.
Then I guess it would be interesting to ask Perry who he voted for in those elections, because right now, no one seems to have any evidence one way or another - just assumptions.
Grover Cleveland was President when my grandfather was born. He voted a straight Democrat ticket up until 1936. I consider him an Alf Landon Democrat. After four years of FDR, he never voted Democrat again.
Since it’s a secret ballot you will never know.
My guess would be that he had a chance to vote for Reagan versus Carter, Reagan versus Mondale, and Bush versus Dukakis.
I would not be at all surprised to learn that Perry voted for Reagan over Mondale and Bush over Dukakis.
Okay, at least you are not going to try to claim your opinion as fact. That is more than a lot here will do.
ROFLMAO!!!!!
If that isn't the most ignorant comment ever made on FR, it is Top Three.
You're obviously not familair with Texas A&M.
