And we all know what great judges of leadership characteristics the Germans are.

“He wanted to change America and restore its reputation in the world.”
He accomplished the first but never intended the second. If he did he certainly went about it in a strange way.

Not voting for Obama would have been cynical, timid and un-American. It's good that we have the Germans to tell us what is American!

[Jeremiah Wright] preached against the racism which still hasn't been eradicated in America. Wright is no longer in touch with Obama, but he continues to preach throughout the country, and he likes to focus on the parable of the lost sheep in Luke 15:3-7 A European Jerry Wright fan. No surprise -- they're both America-despising socialists.

(NOT THE FUHRER THE GERMANS WERE LOOKING FOR)I don't get that from the article. It's more like "Poor Obama! He's tried everything, been so nice, he's thoughtful, contemplative and humble - look where all that got him?!?!"

Another European with a man crush heard from.
... he is no longer the president who determines the issues and sets the tone of the debate, but a small, radicalized group of unashamedly amateur politicians who have declared the government to be their enemy
Obama is the original small, amateur, radical politician. The teapartiers can't hope to compare.

Barack Obama electrified an entire nation”
Good grief.
I couldn’t read further. He won, and won handily...but he still only got 53%. Far from electrifying an entire nation.
All I can say, is if you are German, or European, and you are reading this, is that I think you Europeans are truly idiots. Socialism is for fools. And you could count the non-socialists in Europe on one hand.

I think anyone would be hard-pressed to find an article that showed such a profound lack of understanding of America as this.
Besides that, it's a sickening encomium to Hollow Man and how darned intellectual he is. Just too smart for us bohunks, don'tcha know.
To: Chi-townChief
This whole article is nothing but a mish-mash of leftist claptrap. It’s really not worth the hours it would take to refute its fallacies point by point.
I might consider refuting a bit of it if Der Speigel allowed comments, but they, like The NY Slimes, deem their putrid propaganda so perfect that they do not wish to see it sullied with factual refutation from the great unwashed peasantry.

I see
Der Spiegel is depending on the usual objective sources: Frank Rich, Maureen Dowd, Andrew Sullivan.
...his political adversaries have become too confident. ...if in next year's presidential election they support candidates like Sarah Palin, Rick Perry and Michele Bachman, politicians who go too far in their furious attacks against the government, they could even scare off many right-wing voters.
One doesn't usually get political analysis quite this penetrating outside the comics section. If this is informed European opinion, I weep for that continent.
