(CNSNews.com) -- While a federal appeals court ruled today that the mandate in Obamacare requiring individuals to purchase health insurance was unconstitutional, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, dismissed a question in 2009 about Congress' constitutional authority to impose such a mandate.
At the U.S. Capitol on Oct. 22, 2009, CNSNews.com asked Leahy, Where, in your opinion, does the Constitution give specific authority for Congress to give an individual mandate for health insurance?
Leahy said, "We have plenty of authority. Are you saying there is no authority? Why would you say there is no authority? I mean, theres no question theres authority. Nobody questions that.

In todays ruling, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, in Atlanta, stated: This economic mandate represents a wholly novel and potentially unbounded assertion of congressional authority: the ability to compel Americans to purchase an expensive health insurance product they have elected not to buy, and to make them re-purchase that insurance product every month for their entire lives.
Flashback: Pelosi on Obamacare's Constitutionality: Are You Serious?'
Leahy, I question everything about you.
I fully believe that you are a glittering jewel of collosal ignorance, and that you’d flunk the civics course I took in high school years ago.
Ergo, you’re probably a lawyer, an incompetent lawyer, and therefore a democrat congress-critter (the black hole of incompetency).
Amen to that!
You work for US Patty old boy and don’t you forget it! It’s an AMERICAN thing! Punk!
See my tagline
For $20k/year or even $2500/year, I can buy a lot of medical care and services along with an inexpensive catastropic plan of my own choosing. Forget Obamacare.
In the words of VP Cheney to Sen. Leahy, Go....yourself!
Yep, they’re three of a kind.
The liberals keep bringing up that almost all states require you to have car insurance, and that requiring health insurance is the same thing.
Perhaps the big difference is that theoretically you can avoid the car insurance mandate by living in a place where you don’t need a car. But you can’t escape the health insurance mandate.
And also, car insurance is handled under state laws, not administered from Washington, DC, as Obamacare is.
Liberals must think that government can and should do everything to solve every conceivable problem. From health insurance to people grappling with poverty to global warming, the federal government is the vehicle to solve all problems. (sarcasm)
That right there is the most compelling powerful statement against obamacare I've ever heard. It should be talked about and repeated word for word over and over again until its reality sinks in the uninformed distracted "independent" voters.
Remember, Leahy comes from the same state Howard Dean and the socialist wacko Bernie Sanders represent.
This is all one needs to know!
It should read “No one Questions Our Insanity”.
ditto
The only car insurance that is REQUIRED is liability insurance - which pays someone else if you injure or kill them with your car.
If car insurance were like 0bamaCare, it would have to cover everything that could go wrong with your car, whether by accident or by wearing out. It would also have to cover routine maintenance like oil changes, windshield wiper blades, and tires with zero deductable. Furthermore, it would have to pay for repairs to motor vehicles owned by drivers without any insurance. Under those circumstances, it would probably cost $20,000 per year just like 0bamaCare.
