FREEMANSBURG, Pa. (AP) -- Authorities say a police officer slain while responding to a domestic disturbance in a small eastern Pennsylvania borough had pointed a stun gun at two dogs before being shot.

The Morning Call of Allentown reports Freemansburg police Officer Robert Lasso had pointed at the attacking dogs when the homeowner pulled out a shotgun and fired the fatal blast Thursday evening.

How about the scenario that the cop just says, "Nice Doggie" and walks to the door and does his job?

Here's what Google has to say about the results of that scenario:

No results found for "police officer killed by dog".

I was about 8 years old at the time.

I'm willing to vouch that you need more therapy from the USPS health care system, because of your trauma.

Because you are really, really messed up.

The cop came because of a report of a domestic disturbance. He can watch what he can see. The police chief came? Strange eh. He saw the dogs do something and reacted.

What has this got to do with property rights? Aren't we talking about the right to life?

Real simple, I don't have to stand there and let your dogs bite me or someone near me.

Same with the cops ~ and eventually that'll come out at court.

Guy's going to say "'eh shot me dogs" as his defense ~ hope he defends himself. Fires all his lawyers.

And regardless of what ANYONE says, the price for shooting dogs (or thinking about tazing dogs) just got more expensive. It can cost your life, regardless of what happens to the meth-head. And that price is set in blood.

Your perp here didn't respect other's rights to peaceably use their own property. One article contains this goody: "Spengler said Hitcho, 46, had parties at all hours, hollered at neighbors and didn't think twice about blocking neighbors' driveways or alleys with vehicles."

You are not defending property rights, you are defending a murdering POS.

There's always risk when you deal with violence prone people with mental health issues and firearms.

That's not new.

Oh, yeah, and there are these people who value dogs above people ~ not my favorite sort. Dogs are livestock ~ nothing more.

The reason a police dog is attacking in almost every instance is because it is doing it’s job at the orders of his handler and is in the performance of it’s trained duties. The only person who would be inclined to shoot it is the criminal or his partner(s) in crime. Are you trying to justify criminals using deadly force against an officer of the law?

My dog is a family friend, but it does not have the same rights as a human. No matter how much I love it, it is NOT EQUAL to a human life. To believe that it is would make the believer a PETA idiot in my book. I’m not one of those who believe that an animal is equal to a human. If an animal gets sick it gets put down. If it attacks a human it should be killed. If it is a danger to humans, it should be killed.

To kill an animal is not murder. It is wrong, but not in any way, shape or form equal to killing a person. The fact you are trying to justify it as such is wrong. I think people who equate animals as equals to humans are sick in the head.

WE don't know yet, but if you read the other articles (look for the perps name) you will soon discover he had quite a track record and had done such neat tricks as smash his wife's head into the floor.

Some here presume he used dope ~ yet the articles say he was into mental health programs.

The cops knew all about this guy ~ darned shame he was allowed to pull the trigger on his shotgun.

Yeah, sure, and let's say i believe I hold the title to your house and you got 10 minutes to get your stuff and get out of there or I start firing.

I'm finding you need these things personalized to understand what's going on.

Ya see, that’s the problem.

In general, cops enjoy a great deal of respect and admiration from the public.

But when you read story after story about them raiding the wrong house and killing some guy who didn’t know who they were, beating people to death, shooting others in questionable circumstances, seeing video after video of them abusing people for not “submitting”, shooting animals pretty much on site in people’s back yard then you begin to wonder about every cop.

No. WE don’t know yet.

But, his ‘track record’ has nothing to do with this incident.

I’m not saying the guy doesn’t deserve to fry, but you can’t apply what he did in the past with what may or may not have transpired in this incident.

Each case should be judged on ‘evidence’. Not supposition.

None of the articles I have read on ‘this’ case states what the ‘domestic disturbance’ was.

Notice, it didn’t say ‘domestic violence’ which would ‘presuppose’ it to mean wife, or another person being battered or assaulted.

Like I said. I hope the guy fries. But let’s not start convicting people based on ‘past’ cases.

Under the law, each case must be investigated and tried on it’s own merit.

I don't need anything personalized. And I'm not the one screaming at people to get out or die.

You want this shotgun shack that much? You got it. I'll just fade over that westward horizon.

You are very, very messed up and need professional help.

I’d rather protect both of their rights. Neither was found guilty of a crime and to rip somebody’s property rights away and fast-track them to a conviction just because of a vague report of “Domestic Violence” is a crock. You’d be surprised what constitutes as “Domestic Violence”. Your husband could yell at you and according to VAWA (Written by Joe Biden, mind you), he could lose the house that HE paid for.

Domestic violence laws often circumvent the constitution.

You can get help. It's only a phone call away. Folks that have been there, done that....

You are on my kneeling special prayer list tonight. I hope it works out for you.

And some folks wonder what precipitated all the SWAT team nonsense.

Actually, it was the other way around.

And if a man steps up to my steps with a valid warrant or summons, I'll be pleased to go explain it to a judge.

Been a long time since those days.

Our so called 'justice system' is broken. We have to fix it. Step up, or step out.

Man up. Grab your sack and pick a hill to die on.

No, you don’t. Nowhere have I defended this individual. MY whole point is big government suckups, who, oddly enough, bear more than a passing resemblance to you, eagerly piling on in defense of encroaching on our rights, as guaranteed by the Constitution. One such individual came on and immediately started calling posters he disagreed with all manner of names.

The Constitution applies even to the lowest among us... even to those whom I despise. It even applies to Eric Holder and the BATFags... when they trample it, they get sanctioned, preferably at the hands of their victims!

In the present case, I’m torn... but I KNOW that the cops should have a.) gotten a warrant and b.) NOT threatened the dog. Should the householder have killed the cop? I dunno, I wasn’t there, NOR WERE YOU!!! Was the householder a model citizen? It appears not, but then again, it wouldn’t be the first time someone was maligned by cops in order to justify themselves, so, again, I dunno! Nor do you.

I agree with you: NO dog should have special rights. So if a state’s law says police dogs are sworn officers and to kill them is murder, I say HOGWASH!!! First, how do you administer that oath? It’s laughable!!! But if you’re going to make it murder to kill ONE dog, the law MUST, under what WAS our system, treat all dogs the same.

And it’s not just bad guys who are attacked by cops’ dogs. Have you looked at how many WRONG ADDRESSES get busted into by cops, both local and federal (or feral)??? I would kill ANY dog attacking me or mine, and I am the farthest thing from a “bad” guy there is. Oh, yes, I’m BAAAD!! All Marines are... but to be targeted, except in error, no earthly reason. Could that error happen? Of course; NONE of us are safe. Would I shoot to defend me or mine? In a New York minute!

No, we agree on this far more than we disagree...
