Reacting to last nights GOP presidential debate, the White House said today that the 2012 candidates proved themselves to be out of touch with Americans by saying they would refuse to accept tax increases as part of a debt deal.
In Ames, Iowa last night the candidates were asked if they would refuse to accept a budget deal with a 10-to-1 ratio of spending cuts to tax increases. All eight presidential contenders raised their hands.
Thats clearly not where the American people are, Principal Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest told reporters today. That basically puts these candidates in a position of not even asking corporate jet owners to assume one-tenth of the burden that were asking college students to bear
that they would not even consider asking millionaires and billionaires to bear one-tenth of the burden that middle-class families would be asked to bear in a deficit reduction package.

What it proves is that the American people are on to Obama’s lies.
They know:
Tax increases will kill more jobs and prevent employers from expanding.
Tax Increases would not provide more Federal revenue.
Obama would pretend they add revenue and then spend those false revenues for more phoney gov’t programs, simply to buy votes.
If I had been one of the candidates, I would have said, “Sure. Let’s have the 10 parts spending cuts immediately. As in now, not next budget year, but right now. Then we’ll have the 1 part tax increase promised over the next ten years, if future congresses don’t decide to do something else. And a new president in a year and a half doesn’t veto it. Oh, and most of the tax raises won’t start until about three years from now. Oh, and they won’t actually be tax increases, but smaller cuts than what I wanted to give them. So even though the rates will be less than they are now, it’s a tax raise, because the rates were going to be even less. In fact, I’ll go ahead and institute one tax increase now. The capital gains tax will increase from 15% currently to 5% beginning tomorrow. I say ‘increase’ because I wanted to make it 0%. So, that’s a 5% increase in the capital gains tax rate.”
Republicans should call them on this now and offer 10 to 1. See how quick the naritive changes to they are trying to decimate the poor/children/elderly.
I would tell the dems I absolutely agree to a 10:1 spending cut to tax increase— but you go first
Imagine, a “journOlist” from ABC telling us about who’s “out of touch”
The rhetoric has become surreal.
"Spending" in the tax code, subsidies as "investments", "revenue" for tax increases.
Despite the bleats of the left and of the MSM, most folks understand that while we could increase taxes, the economy is in such a state that increasing taxes wouldn’t increase revenue.
What americans? Those already not paying taxes and wanting more from Uncle Sugar?
Question for the Idiots at ABC TV ? Just who won the last Elections ? And Why did Americans Elect & Send these New Politicians to Washington ? To Raise Taxes and Expand Obama’s Agenda ? Sorry ABC , but we are just Not that Stupid out here .
They badly need new material at the downgrade White House. That corporate jet thing is their own stimulus program!
Unfortunately NO ONE last night in the debate said this about "cuts to taxes" deals: THE-CUTS-NEVER-HAPPEN.
Q: Or even 10 to one?
SANTORUM: No. The answer is no, because thats not the problem. The problem is that we have spending that has exploded. Government has averaged 18 percent of GDP as as a percentage of the overall economy that government eats up. And were now at almost 25 percent. Revenues are do
In another appearance this week a different candidate (Romney?) made the point more vividly by including all levels of government. State & local gov't add around $3 trillion more spending which puts all government sucking up over 40%, heading to 50% of GDP.
"Spending" in the tax code, subsidies as "investments", "revenue" for tax increases.
Amen. It's done only to create confusion. If Democrats were ever clear in language and on the level, support would vanish.
The White House is out of touch
I am an AMERICAN. I want no increase in taxes nor growth of Government.
MOST Americans I personally know agree with that.
Don't they wish! The Democrats are out of touch; they cannot put together a meaningful budget; the socialists just borrow and spend and print money.
Dems do not understand the positive connection between lower taxes and more taxpayers and more revenue.
You won't even miss the 25 or 50 cents you put in a FR Change Jar, but at the end of the month you will have at least $5 to donate so FR can operate smoothly, or you will moan and grown and go into withdrawal when it is down, because of broken parts, or over loaded servers during crisis events. And every day 0 remains in office is a crisis.

An early indication of this type of thinking occurred during one of the presidential debates in 2008. Obama advocated an increase in the tax on capital gains. When told that a lowered rate actually increased revenues, Obama said that he would still increase rates since it was the “fair thing to do”. I thought at the time, “we are indeed going to be living in interesting times.”
