Byron York defends 'submissive' Bachmann question
Washington Examiner ^ | 8/12/11 | Charlie Spiering

Posted on 08/12/2011 9:26:39 AM PDT by markomalley

During the Fox News / Washington Examiner debate, Examiner political correspondent Byron York tested Michele Bachmann with an edgy question: As president, would she be submissive to her husband? The crowd didn't react well, but Bachmann handled it well.

York was asked about his question on Fox News this morning. Watch the question, and his response in the video below:

(video at link)

Byron also responded on Twitter earlier this morning: Thanks to all for comments on 'submissive' question. It's kind of question a candidate will have to face, if they go far enough in race…haven't talked to Bachmann campaign, but I think they're happy with her answer. It was a good one, and most human moment of the night.

Really?

Will York be asking Obama about his social security number? Any personal issues at all? Will we vet the president during his re-electiomn campaign? We sure skipped all those questions in his first go-around.

Note to Clown Media. It not your job to test the candidates on how to answer stupid questions.

Like the rest of the Junk Media Byron doesn't seem to get it.

US Voters are NOT interested in watching "Journalists: clown for their "Journalist" brethren. We want to hear serious substantive questions asked about real issues facing us as a nation. We need to learn the candidates views and positions.

We do no need them interjecting their Journalist clown posse titanic egos into the the debate.

The Candidates, not the the morons asking the questions, are the story. Best thing the Junk Media can do for the US voters is get out of the way.

I love Byrons articles, his questions sucked. Why did Fox and the Examiner feel that they had to ask questions on abortion, Gay marriage, and such? The MSM does enough of that.

Amazing how only the enemies of the MSM get asked these ridiculous questions while their liberal counterparts are tossed softballs. Byron York, whoever the hell he is, just showed the world what a complete ass he is and put himself on the “no read” list of many.

Broad brushes leave streaks.. but what the heck.

sounds like the label ‘mainstream media’ should include Fox and the panel of pundits asking questions last night as the GoP’s finest devoured each other.. to the glee of the Dems..

makes ya wonder what the debates are really all about.

besides opportunities to harass candidates into ‘submission’

and ratings..

As president, would she be submissive to her husband?

What the hell made him decide that was a relevant question?

I love Byrons articles, his questions sucked.

He's done good writing over the years and exposed a lot of liberal dirt, so I was absolutely horrified when he asked that question of Michelle Bachmann. To her credit, she answered it quite well and it may benefit her in the long run, because like the Newsweek cover it was an "out of bounds" attack.

It also irritates me that they will ask Bachmann about her Christianity, ask Cain about Mitt's Mormonism...but will they ever ask Obama about the photo of him in the muslim garb at a madrassa or why he has no significant participation in any Christian church, group or holiday? He says he's a Christian without anything in his life or actions to demonstrate that, but those who actually do live their faith are repeatedly grilled about their religions.

I say this as a Palin supporter:

Sorry, Byron, there is no sane presidential campaign in which that question legitimately comes up. (That said, I think we can all agree that asking Bill Clinton the complementary scriptural question, “Governor, do you love your wife?” would have been...entertaining.)

Very disapointed with the Fox questions. I HAD more respect for them prior to their MSM ambush questions.

I’m not sure 2008 counted as “sane”.

I wonder if Mr. York would ask if Barack is submissive to Michelle.

“So tonight, we are respectfully asking you, the candidates, to try to put aside the talking points, to try to put aside the polished lines that get applause on the campaign trail here in Iowa and around the country, and to level with the American people, to speak from the heart about how you would navigate this country through the challenges America faces.”

And we, the candidates, respectfully ask you, the panel, to try to put aside your self-serving, mickey-mouse, ‘gotcha’ questions that are designed to embarrass us, make us look foolish, and take the focus off the real issues. We respectfully ask you not to take ten year old quotes out of context, put them on the TV screen, and then contrast them with other out-of-context quotes, for the sole purpose of trying to humiliate us and make yourself look clever. We also respectively ask that you do not ask blatantly asinine questions such as asking a female candidate “Will you be submissive to your husband?”.

Wives, submit to your husbands, and husbands, submit to your wives, and be sure to ask all candidates if they obey.

My response would have been “Byron, our economy is in the toilet, we have three wars going on and London is burning? Is this really the best you can do?”

True.

But the point is that any Christian of a conservative creed can expect to be zinged by the press at some point in time.

I heard Byron on the morning drive show on WMAL this morning and the one thing that was pointed out (forget if by him or if by one of the hosts) was that the question is going to come up during the campaign. Either now or later in the primaries or in the general. She gave a fine answer to it. And now it is no longer a "zing" point against her. And that, all in all, is not a bad thing.
