WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Consumers spent more money in July on a wide variety of goods, marking the biggest one-month increase in retail sales since the spring.

Retail sales rose a seasonally adjusted 0.5% last month, the largest increase since April, the Commerce Department said Friday. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had expected sales to increase 0.7% overall.

Apparently with all the gloom people are still buying. Not sure how they are buying, other than indulging in the plastic.

I am buying, just because I expect prices to go up.

Stocking up now since there has been a slight dip in prices recently.

Aren’t these just government figures put out by Barry’s kids in the Obama regime. There does seem to be a lot of “Fun With Numbers” going on out there since Barry’s poll numbers are in the toilet.

Yes, obviously there isn’t much point in buying something you don’t need. Unless you are a Democrat.

“Consumers spent more money in July on a wide variety of goods”

So, does this mean they purchased more goods or that they spent more devalued dollars on the same or less amount of goods?

I wonder if it has anything to do with this?

"U.S. consumer credit shot up in June by $15.53 billion, according to a Federal Reserve report on Friday that showed consumers were willing to keep borrowing robustly in a tight job market."

"It was the biggest one-month gain in consumer credit in nearly four years, since a $17.29 billion jump in August 2007."

Wow. All the back to school stuff went out on the floors in July. All the paper, pens, backpacks, mini refrigerators, dorm room decor, and magic markers. Gosh, I wonder why July sales would be up?

With the end of summer nearing, they may be spending their
