PACIFICA -- A pregnant Pacifica woman was found dead by her husband today after an apparent attack by a family pit bull, police said.
The 32-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was killed in her home on the 500 block of Reina del Mar, said Capt. Dave Bertini, a Pacifica police spokesman.
The woman's husband told police that he had arrived home from work around noon and found one of the couple's two pit bulls standing over his wife's body. He was able to get the dog into the backyard before police arrived a few moments later.
Attempts to revive the woman were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the investigation was under way, Bertini said, the dog got loose from the yard and charged at officers who were stationed outside. They fired three shots at the pit bull, killing it.

Love your pics! :)))
>>But the only one we hear about is the pit bull. So strange...<<
Since you documented cases where attacks from other breeds WERE reported, your comment makes no sense.
>> but with children or fearful adults it can be a whole new game...and dogs pick it up...
Indeed.
>> they bite so quick ...you would get chewed up
Experienced that more than once negotiating the stick while playing fetch.
The maulings and deaths are unfortunate. I wonder what percentage involved undisciplined or radicalized dogs.
Well if this photo is any indication of his intellect, I'd say he already bought another one.
>> I would suggest that some of those pitbulls identified by dogsbite.org are probably boxers, labradors, bull dogs and mixes, shrinking the probability of being attacked by a pitt/rottie even further... :-)<<
You discard documented statistics, then you pull this information straight from your rear end, with no supporting evidence of any kind?
And you wonder why no one takes you seriously.
Correction: should read “as long as the stats aren’t used as a bully club....” Sorry for the mistype!
Cute pictures of your pit bull next to the baby. I bet the dead lady has a lot of similar photos before the dog ripped her to shreds.
In fact, had she lived, I suppose the idiot husband might have allowed the pit bull around the child. You think?
Maybe some good will come from this tragedy and something will actually be done to reduce the danger. They are talking about required neutering, that would at least be a start.
Yep, that grin looks like he’s about at the Obama level.
We collected data from The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)and media accounts related to dog bite attacks and fatalities
If you trust the media or the humane society to correctly identify a dog, well...I have a bridge for sale; and if people took me seriously, I wouldn't know what to do with myself. :-P
...;D
Why thank you!
Billy club, bully club...It’s all one on threads like these!
My dad was not nearly as amused.
;D
I don’t blame you for not adopting one. Without knowing the background, there are a number of breeds I would be careful of adopting, especially if I were not an expert in dog training, and with kids. On the other hand, while I have nothing against shelter dogs, my first preference would always be a dog I either raised from a young age or knew exactly where he/she had been from a young age. That way, I know what I’m getting.
My post was really just about why the numbers for pit and pit type dogs are so high. They appeal to a very bad element.
>> “I suppose the idiot husband might have allowed the pit bull around the child. You think?” <<
.
Not much doubt.
>> “Depressingly so, the single most likely cause of violent death in children is their own parents.” <<
.
Yes. - Dogs, dirtbikes/quads, ski boats.
You are sooooo right!!
I wish I’d video recorded the poor groomer at PetCo who was locked in a death match with Shih Tzu.
I watched her for 10 minutes and offered to help but they wouldn’t let me [insurance stuff] and to this day, I don’t know if she ever got that wretched little monster’s tail trimmed or not.
If *my* dog was repeatedly and -seriously- attempting to bite the bejeebers outta some person I paid to attend it, I’m afraid some really serious corrections would occur.
I never found out who the owner was so I couldn’t raise hell with him/her/it.
It was embarrassing to me and it wasn’t even my dog.
When my brats go to the vet, all the girls come out to play with them, make a fuss over them and get them to do their tricks.
They *never* misbehave except for the last time Odin went in.
A muzzled Golden Retriever -dragged- his human into the very large waiting room and the human [stupidly] sat down right beside of us when there were tons of other empty seats.
Then, his idiot dog attempted Suicide By Odin when he, with no warning or reason, lunged at him.
Odin “blocked” me and began to lunge right back, snarling.
I don’t know if he thought *I* was under attack or if he was warning the dog to not mess with him.
We got up and went to the exam room to wait for our turn, in peace.
The GR’s owner just sat there still smiling...well, stupidly.
He was lucky I’ve got quick reflexes and a dog who listens.
Some things are best not contemplated...
Ah...just some lame, obligatory ad hominem, then?
Pardon me for over-estimating you.
