PACIFICA -- A pregnant Pacifica woman was found dead by her husband today after an apparent attack by a family pit bull, police said.
The 32-year-old woman, whose name has not been released, was killed in her home on the 500 block of Reina del Mar, said Capt. Dave Bertini, a Pacifica police spokesman.
The woman's husband told police that he had arrived home from work around noon and found one of the couple's two pit bulls standing over his wife's body. He was able to get the dog into the backyard before police arrived a few moments later.
Attempts to revive the woman were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
While the investigation was under way, Bertini said, the dog got loose from the yard and charged at officers who were stationed outside. They fired three shots at the pit bull, killing it.

Thats 365 dead in that same five years; not a huge risk, but greater than that of getting eaten by a pit bull. What are you doing to keep your kids safe from the hot dog threat?

Award for most ridiculous post of the month. Seriously WTF? WTF? WTF? I almost didn’t respond but it showed such ignorance I couldn’t help myself. Of course there is a greater risk of choking. Kids ear at least 3 times a day and have food in their mouth probably at least 5-10. How many kids have contact with a Pit that many times a day. Sheesh, stop trying to defend your Pit. I know you have one or more. Maybe you’re not defending but trying to convince yourself???

You analogy about more people choking and dying from food than are killed by Pit Bulls is pathetic.

When I read his analogy my jaw dropped and I did a big ole WTF , is this a joke? Pathetic doesn’t even begin to describe it. I think it is possibly the dumbest post I have seen in at least a month.
Beautiful dog and I know what you mean. That’s why when we take our dogs to the beach, my wife carries Pepper Spray and I carry a .45.
I only took a look at your first link:
http://kinziblogs.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/chicago-man-mauled-by-golden-retrievers/
Did you read this?
Take a look at it and get back me and maybe I will read your other links.
Out here in Hillbilly Heaven, everybody and their brother has some kind of big dog in the yard..usually several.
From the time I could walk, I was taught what to do and more importantly, what *not* to do regarding them.
Possibly due to genetics [my paternal gramma] all dogs ‘have a thing for me’ and I’ve never been in danger from any of that I’ve ever met.
When I was 3, my dad took me with him back to old man Zello’s place to have something welded.
Zellos had a huge pack of GSD/GSD crosses in his ‘junkyard’ and they all congregated around a huge pile of tires.
Being a toddler with no interest in welding but *much* interest in “doggies”, I climbed to the top of the tire pile and the dogs all came with me and encircled me and there we spent an hour, just petting, playing and hugging.
Unbeknownst to me, even Zello feared his barely domesticated pack of dogs.
When the welding was done, my dad frantically searched for me, only to find me dozing amidst the pile of dogs.
When he and Zello approached, the dogs, as one, began snarling and barking at them.
They were unwilling to relinquish their new “pup”.
Normally, I had to -immediately- heed my dad’s commands but suddenly, at that young age, I felt The Power Of The Dog and refused to come down from atop my mountain of tires.
I knew no one was going to try and come up after me.
This beg/plead/cajole/threaten psychodrama went on for about and hour until dusk came and I got hungry.
Slowly I came down from the pile, hugging and kissing each dog goodbye and receiving many face licks and nuzzles in return.
Yes, I got in trouble when I got home but it was worth it.
It was then I realized that I had my gramma’s “way with animals”.
[which *still* irritates my dad no end because without me there, he can’t manage his own dogs *or* horses]
;D
“There is currently no accurate way to identify the number of dogs of a particular breed,”
Sheer laziness.
DNA testing for breeds/mixes is readily available and quite inexpensive.
It’s just much easier [and more knee-jerk reaction agenda] to pick a breed and then demonize it.
The average Joe can’t tell a pit bull from a Boxer or Lab cross.
So I missed *one* out of the scores of choices.
So what?
You should’ve bothered to follow the links in the article.

Don’t be so desperate to discount the facts when presented to you based on a single technicality.
Just for kicks...I ran a search on Google on pit bull attacks and there are 3.36 million results.

and those are just the ones that made the news. How many other cats and dogs have Pits killed where it was never reported? How many people have been bitten where it was never reported? Probably about 1000x the number of articles that showed up on Google.
Depressingly so, the single most likely cause of violent death in children is their own parents.
Google it.
I can’t help it, even though you like the beasts, this was hilarious!!!
“If Chihuahuas were 70-90 pounds the nation would be littered with the dead remains of human victims...can you imagine those big assed eyes and that snarling nervous crap if built like a Pit or ABD or Cane Corso...man...that would scare even me...”
Now that’s funny, I don’t care who you are or which side you take in this debate.

I think I saw maybe one one or two instances where a retriever MIX made the list and it is literally littered with with pit bull attacks.
You said you’d “never heard of Golden Retrievers mauling anyone”.
I gave you multiple examples.
Deal with it.
It’s funny because it’s true.
God, in His infinite wisdom, kept the really nasty dogs too small to do much harm.
Dachshunds are one of the top ten biters.
Imagine them at 100 pounds.
:)
What I said was it is not a news story you hear, as opposed to pit bulls. So you think that pit bulls are no more dangerous than retrievers? I have no idea what point it is you wish to make, as you just shotgun out contradicting information.
Really? Penis infatuated huh? My wife constantly says that the reason those men get Pits is because they have short penis syndrome. It may be true, she does at times seem relatively infatuated by it. :P
When our Springer was around 10 years old her hearing and sight began to fade. She did at times become nippy with kids. She never hurt them, but she would grab onto them as they walked away from her. Never when they were facing her. It was weird. Then one night she went after a friend of my son’s that she had known her entire life. It was late, around 11PM, she was asleep on the rug in the entry hall. He came in the door and she just went for him, tore his shirt in the front. I think he startled her but after that I watched her very closely around any little kids. She also nipped at several others, always as they were walking away, never while they petted her or walked toward her. Odd. As she neared the end of her life, that ended. She was a wonderful dog and will always be missed. I attribute the late in life nipping to her fading sight and hearing.
You said “People can say its not the breed, its the owner, but I just dont see many stories that go man mauled by golden retriever.”
I replied with a verified rebuttal to your blanket statement.
It’s only “contradicting information” because it refutes what you said.
How hard is that for you to understand?
I made a point specifically tailored to counter yours.
Game over.
And I don't.
I just made a comment on this, and it wasn't even to you. What's your issue on this matter? It didn't even look like you read the links you posted to me to refute some point I never made.
