With a new poll showing that 32 percent of Democrats are eager for President Obama to be challenged by somebody in his own party, is it time for a Democrat to get into the 2012 primary?
Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders said yes recently, though history frowns on challengers. Just ask the late Edward M. Kennedy who failed to knock off Jimmy Carter in 1980 as the former president faced economic troubles and bad polls similar to what Obama is up against.
Pew was out with a poll analysis yesterday that said "32% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents say they would like other Democrats to take on Obama for the nomination, while 59% say they would not."
Pew said that Obama is actually in a better situation than Bill Clinton was before his re-election. "Far fewer Democrats want to see Obama challenged for the nomination than supported a primary challenge to Bill Clinton in December 1994. At that time, 66% of Democrats and Democratic leaners wanted to see Clinton challenged, shortly after the GOP won control of Congress for the first time in 40 years."
But who would that challenger be and could they win?
Actually, she scares me more than the loon.
He couldn’t lead flies to honey, but Hillary (as sleazy and crooked as she is) has intelligence and talent.
The loon is doing a superb job of destroying himself and his minions - but Hillary would be much more subtle (a la frog in a slowly boiling pot).
Be afraid. Be very afraid.
That may or may not be true..... Remember that little billy clintoon was also the first....repeat the FIRST....native born, self-declared black president!!! (LOL)
And he'd be a hell of a campaigner for the witch.
One thing's for sure...it would split the dem/lib/prog/pops all to hell!
There would be the group that loves the stain (blacks and other assorted idiots).
There would be the group that thinks the stain is not nearly liberal enough
There would be the group that loves the clintons...billy, hitlery...doesn't matter
There would be the "disaffected" group that won't vote at all just because of the mess.
And there would be the group that is so disappointed, they might even vote for the "right" just cause they're pissed off enough.
“what cabinet post will she give to Obama?”
coffee fetcher
And he would still be way under-qualified!
Yes.
What fun. And I hate to say it, but she would be a better president than he is. She doesn’t play golf and she knows where to find her butt.
She won’t have to.
She and Bill will confront him in private with all of their secret files. Then she will announce after he gives his “shall not seek and will not accept” speech.
I voted for him in this poll too and it’s now at 1.27%.
Operation Chaos for Kerry!
would the clintonthugs have the balls to displace a black prez?
I don’t believe that that’s true. With the Blacks “totally invested” in FUBO, if the RATs change horses for the 2012 election, the Blacks will stay home along with their 12% of the vote, and the Pubbies will coast to victory. So the RATs are stuck with FUBO for better or worse. So, I say go RATS, primary the bastard. Make him spend all of his $billion on staying on as the nominee. We should all hope that there is a primary fight.
Hillary has done such a good job at the State Department. She has reset our relationship with Russia, and that magnificient little war with Libya, well, enough said.
I just hope that the snipers in Sarajevo don’t get another shot at her.
Yeah, what you said!
Hillary should do the right thing, and go third party, completely separating herself from the machine that put the present stupidity into office. I’ll send her money, if she goes third party.
That is an excellent article. Thanks for posting. It’s full of little gems, like this (which I was telling a NYer just yesterday)
“Remember and this is key to understanding all of this that the Left spent three decades or so in exile, crafting elaborate masturbatory fantasies of what it wanted to do to this country and our economy when it finally took over again. Thirty years in the wilderness makes people go a little mad, so just imagine how nuts many of these bearded Marxists are, since they started out crazy to begin with.
“These are Leftist academics and true-believer cultists who have thus far been largely insulated from the true suffering of most Americans, because they are still being paid by non-profits, universities, grant-sponsored endeavors, labor unions, PACs, or the federal government in some way. There have been no layoffs, no budget cuts, and no threats to their livelihood because the parasitic flow of tax dollars into these peoples pay checks has not been shut off yet while people who work in the real world, who have been subjected to the real life consequences of the sum total of Obamas terrible decisions, realize just how bad things really are.”
I would also add DC to that mix - things are just fine in DC. They can’t figure out why everyone all over is so upset about jobs.
They should attempt to draft her at the convention. I would buy a ticket to see that.
Sitting Presidents who face a strong primary challenge from inside their own party generally win the nomination and lose the general election.
Jerry Ford and Ronald Reagan. 1976
Jimmy Carter and Edward Kennedy 1980.
The best of all possible worlds is for Clinton to challenge Obama in the Dem primaries and for Clinton to lose thereby delaying the start of the Dem campaign for President and using up resources that could have been used against a Rep in the general election.
I would love to see how he would debate someone from the Democrat side. It might give an idea of the subject debates to follow.
I wonder if teleprompters will be allowed.
Sitting Presidents who face a strong primary challenge from inside their own party, then withdraw, generally leave the eventual nominee to lose the general election.
Harry Truman and Adlai Stevenson - 1952
Lyndon B. Johnson and Hubert Humphrey - 1968
