Which huge spending bills? peanuts compared to the congress of the past 4 years. With two large wars going on, the deficit ballooned, but the Republican congress brought the deficit down sharply when they were in majorities. The deficit is 10 to 15 times larger now than the last Republican year.
I can point to spending problems a plenty during the 2000s, so there is not a lack of blame, but it is apples and oranges. If we were still following that course of spending, we would be in a massively improved situation today. They were speeding 75 in a 60mph zone. Today, we’re at 120.

Even with the 2008 deficit spending ballooning to over 400 billion under Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, the average deficit for the Bush years was about 200 billion per year. Obama's deficit for the first year was about as big as that for all Bush years combined.
