Gov. Rick Perry now leads Mitt Romney in an ongoing 2012 presidential poll run by iRepublican.com a social network for influential Republicans. Sarah Palin is currently third.
Rick Perry has not announced his candidacy for President yet and he's well liked by the Tea Party. Yet he seems to appeal to moderate Republicans as well, especially considering that http://www.irepublican.com started in liberal Manhattan.
"Coincidentally, Romney went from first to second the same day he commented on the Debt Ceiling Deal", said Marcello De Luca, founder of iRepublican.com. iRepublicans, as this network's members are referred to, continue to vote and results may change before the primaries. One can follow current standings at http://www.irepublican.com/candidate2012
An interesting article here. As I've been saying, we need someone who can bring on-board the GOP Establishment, the Evangelicals and the Tea Party...and Gov. Perry can do it!
This is very interesting, considering that this poll was started in liberal Manhattan and if they are willing to support a more conservative candidate like Gov. Perry, that will help us out!
Maybe now the Republican “party” will comprehend that the American people DON’T WANT ROMNEY
I saw the biggest endorsement for Perry so far today.
On Morning Joe, Joe said Perry wouldn’t appeal to Dayton, Ohio, or anywhere else in the midwest. Joe said Perry was like Will Ferrel doing GWB.
If Joe doesn’t like him, there must be something good there.
“On Morning Joe, Joe said Perry wouldnt appeal to Dayton, Ohio, or anywhere else in the midwest.”
HA! That’s laughable! I know Gov. Perry would be LOVED here in Missouri; people just gotta know more about him. Especially when they hear about his record on job creation...mmmmmmmmmhmmmmmmm, yep, we’ve got a winner here in Missouri and other Midwestern states!
Romney is Perry without the enthusiasm for illegal aliens. Perry is Romney without the enthusiasm for socialized medicine.
Michele Bachmann, Sarah Palin or Herman Cain would make far better presidents that either RINO #1 or RINO #2.
The GOP Establishment is part of the problem, not part of the solution. When I see them backing any particular candidate, I run the other way. I'll concede that you may have to throw them a bone now and then in return for their backing to ensure electability, but the bone should be just that (the veep slot such as Reagan picking Bush) not the whole enchilada.
Who provided the legwork, the organization, the enthusiasm and even the funds for 2010? Mostly the TEA party and conservatives. We nominate Perry, and we've agreed to take a seat in the back of the bus again and settle for crumbs.
LOL Good one! Wish I had seen that ........ but then I would actually have to watch Morning Joe .... uh.. no.... so thanks for telling us about it.
You know what? I don’t care if the usual suspect Perry-bashers with their blah, blah, blah Perry-bashing talking points show up here. They are so repetitive, and so predictable, and — in the grand scheme of things — so minor, that I think they are actually an advertisement for Perry.
I have been posting for many weeks on FR that this is my short list:
Palin
Perry
Bachmann
I’m sticking with that, and if Palin goes in I have to back her 100%... but I’m starting to hope she won’t go in.
I don’t want to see a Palin/Perry fight and it looks to me like Perry is definitely in.
“We nominate Perry, and we’ve agreed to take a seat in the back of the bus again and settle for crumbs.”
I totally disagree there. Gov. Perry is far more conservative than the Bushes, McCain or Romney. He is against socialized medicine. And, he was for the Tea Party before there was a Tea Party.
He governs a state that is adding jobs by the tens of thousands! Can’t say that about liberal states like Massachusetts, New York, Illinois, etc.
Romney is absolutely a RINO. Perry? I think not. The GOP Establishment must be brought on board so we can have a united front against Obama. If we can have a candidate that has the support of BOTH the Tea Party and the Establishment......it will be much easier to defeat Obama.
A GOP Civil War is not in our best interest or in the country’s best interest. We’re not gonna agree on everything, but if we agree on 90% of the issues, we can come together and have a united front against Obama.
A very famous person I know said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
PerryCARE is worse than RomneyCARE.

Perry is a RINO. A Gore-derived, Rove-tweaked, RINO.
“I dont want to see a Palin/Perry fight and it looks to me like Perry is definitely in.”
I agree! Plus, Gov. Palin and Gov. Perry are really good friends and what the Perry-bashers forget is that she endorsed him in his re-election effort last year.
I think if Gov. Palin endorsed Gov. Perry and through all her support, resources and grassroots capability behind him.....we’d have a powerful front. Gov. Palin is an excellent kingmaker and if she tells her supporters to back Gov. Perry, I know they will.
Like your tagline:
“FREEDOM, PROSPERITY, RESPONSIBILITY: RICK PERRY 2012!”
Perry will bring those back to the US.
And he has a limited government, low taxes and job creation record to run on, not just words.
Of course you can spout this, but none of it is true.
Nice to uncover another Obama enthusiast on FR.
It isn’t “either/or”. Perry has Tea Party supporters. Not all Tea Party, but some of them for sure. Perry is Perry. He isn’t Bush. He isn’t Romney. He is.....wait for it.........himself.
If he can attract support across the spectrum in order to rid ourselves of Obama and Harry Reid, it will be a glorious day.
I love and could proudly support Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain...
But politics being what it is, I will have to go with the most conservative candidate who will run and can win.
I doubt if Sarah will run if Perry runs. I doubt it, that’s all I’m sayin’. We will have to wait and see.
Michele Bachmann as much as I like her cannot compete with Perry’s resume. He has a long record of serving in the Texas Legislature, as Ag Commissioner, as Lt. Governor (a more powerful position than Governor, in TX) and Governor for 10 years.
Herman Cain could be a cabinet member or VIP in a Republican administration, rather than the nominee, as much as I admire him.
“Wish I had seen that ........ but then I would actually have to watch Morning Joe .... uh.. no.... “
I think it was Sun Tzu who said you have to know your enemy.
The worst part of Morning Joe is Mika. She irrationally defends Obama at every turn, and squirms like she’s having an epileptic fit when Obama is being criticized.
An article on Perry— about a letter he wrote for fundraising for Citizens Against Government Waste. Full copy of the letter at the link to the article.
Perry Blasts Spending on the Arts, Amtrak
In a four-page fundraising appeal sent over the governor’s signature on behalf of a group called Citizens Against Government Waste, Perry writes, “The big spenders in Washington from the president on down need to feel the outrage of the American people.”
In the letter, Perry mentions his long association with the group, starting with the keynote speech he gave at the CAGW convention in San Antonio in 1998 and noting their “common vision of limited government as the best path to prosperity.”
Perry told Obama “No” on when he wanted to stop the executing of the Illegal alien murderer a couple weeks ago, he's not so much for the socialized medicine (from what I've heard), and if he's a RINO, he's at least less of a RINO than Romney.
We're headed in the right direction. If it's between these two, I'll take Perry.
In the primary, I'm voting for Herman Cain.
99.3% of all abnormal paps are due to HPV. Are you saying that all of those women are “promiscuous?”
The Legislature made the law. Perry should and does direct the Executive Branch. The Legislature changed the law afterward on one and only one vaccination.
However, they left the online application for opting out alone.
Exactly. THIS is the bottom line for all rational, thinking, conservatives. Anybody advocating anything different is helping Obama, which is the antithesis of all conservatives causes.
For a while I was predicting that Palin would endorse Perry. But then there was a recent post on twitter in which it seemed like she was ready to take him on. I forget what it was now. Well, anyway, we’ll see.
A padded cell awaits you, just put down the keyboard and slowwwwwly back away from it and dial 9-1-1...
Romneycare is destroying the state of Massachusetts.
Perry just signed a bill that forms a compact with Georgia, Oklahoma and Missouri to come up with state healthcare plans and tell the Feds to shove it.
Guardasil was a narrowly scoped, freak moment in time that never played out. The man made an error in judgement in thinking these girls should receive protection through the schools just exactly as other epidemics have been avoided, through innoculations. The reaction told him his error, and the whole thing went away.
You really are going around the bend.
