Robin's friend is naive and clueless. It is not realistic to expect that by attempting to create a "safe, sheltered reality" - you and your loved ones can avoid the dangers and pitfalls of life.

Evil yawns and stretches every now and then, but is usually righted by better forces.

While many conservatives merge liberalism and leftism, there are huge differences between the two camps. Liberals, like Gail, want a kinder and gentler America.

I'm not sure that the differences are all that huge. The disparity between liberals and lefists may just be one of degree. The desire of liberals to achieve that "kindler and gentler America" is tripe. Other than being a popular, non-specific cliche, it is an illusion. Human behavior - on a grand scale - is not kind and gentle and it never will be. It is the naivete and passivity of liberals like the writer's friend, that feeds and encourages leftists in their quest to dismantle Western Civilization.

There are some on the left who understand the true stakes of the cultural war they wage, but many naive liberals, like Gail, do not. They live insular lives, separated by their wealth from the destruction they wreak on the less fortunate. They enjoy the benefits of polite society without ever realizing the sacrifice, hard work, and God-fearing morality of prior generations that was required to create it.

And selfish.

Robin knows darn well that there is a race problem and cities are dangerous places. She figured by moving her family to an affluent suburb that she and her family would be safe. The heck with everybody else who isn't smart enough (or rich enough) to move.

As soon as those stitches are healed she'll still vote for the liberal Dem candidate. Surprise surprise.
