Watkins Glen International Raceway Week-end Broadcast Schedule Watkins Glen web site Law student Cameron Argetsinger dreamed of bringing European style competition to the village where he spent his summer vacations. He drew up a challenging course that encompassed asphalt, cement and dirt roads in and around the village of Watkins Glen. The dream became reality on Oct. 2, 1948. For five years, the top names in American sports car racing visited the small village and huge crowds came out to watch them race. Competition moved to a temporary course in 1953, and 2.3-mile permanent circuit was built in 1956. The following year, The Glen hosted its first professional race, a NASCAR Grand National stock car event won by Buck Baker over Fireball Roberts. The circuit itself was expanded in 1971, as the 1970s brought a wide variety of competition to The Glen, including the Can-Am, Trans-Am, Six Hours, Formula 5000 and CART IndyCar Series. Race winners included many of the top names in international motorsports, including Mark Donohue, Mario Andretti, Jody Scheckter and Bruce McLaren. Watkins Glen race thread is up! Ping!!!
It’s about time Smoke started smokin’! He’s #2 in his own garage.
It would be a technical nightmare but I’ve always wanted to see a night race at the Glen.
They tried rain tires some years back but it just wasn’t racing.
Yeeeee and/or haw! Road course! Go fast, turn left. no right. no, your other right. no wait.
I luv those road courses.
Darn, well maybe they can add more gravel traps.. those are fun.
Road races are my time off from Nascar.
I don’t bother to watch them .
Thanks!
Fingers crossed,, can magic happen two weeks in a row? :-}
I’m not sure how ringers will impact the race this time.. I’m likely to skip Boris and Fellows this go around..
lolol
We’ll tape it for ya... and espn reruns the race late in the evening too.. just in case this one gets exciting.. ;-)
Um yah. I’ll try to change my drivers this weekend. Ragan and Kahne? How could I be so dumb? Twice. I’m sure tork will answer that. nevermind.
I’m waiting on a rain delay now. Tigers and Indians game is still in delay. I think they want to get it in because there isn’t a lot of time left for make up games.
Kind of a playoff feel to this series.
I wonder how ‘Bruises’ Keselowski feels about this race .. all that shifting lies ahead.. his feet are probably eighty shades of rainbow about now..
Sorry... I was over on facebook regaling the yung uns with my vast knowledge of the old Benderville...
Nothing personal Gork but Pete told me you had altitude sickness... or did he attitude?
Have Lady Bender proof read your posts Tork...
I have no fear of heights, used to work high steel. Must be the attitude, but the gravity is so fresh and clear in Benderville.
We have fresh and clear gravity here in the Basin, but it’s a dry gravity.
