Well, he’s been a 3 time governor of a very Republican state who has overseen the 16th largest economy in the world, if that tells you anything.
In order to do that, he’s had to placate the ever growing Hispanic population here. It’s call *Political Reality*

You will hear about the Dream Act he signed in 2001 which allowed children of illegals to attend Texas colleges with in-state rates. True

You will hear he is an open borders advocate. False He has continuously asked for troops on our border and sent State troopers and Texas Rangers to back up local LEOs

You will hear he favor Mexican citizens over US ones. False

You will hear rich Republicans got him reelected. mostly true.

You will hear he’s proposed a plan to build several thousand miles of new roads making shipments from China and Mexico easier and more efficient. He did but, Texans didn’t like it so, he listened.

You will hear he wanted to force young girls to take a cervical cancer drug. He did try to mandate it but, again it was not well received and had a parental opt-out clause. He Listened.

Otherwise he’s an actual, born and raised Texan from a modest background who serve in the USAF and graduated from TAMU.

BTW: He NEVER lost an election and I wouldn’t put this one past him.

I’ve been trying to gauge Perry by what other Texans think of him. It doesn’t seem that most Texans on this board are all that excited about a Perry presidential run. Why?

Your gauge is broken, inactive, biased, all the above?

Perry is strongly supported. The more he's vetted the better. His coattails will be massive.

I supported the idea of Sarah Palin running, then I reassessed her and the field. Perry was making his move. The more I researched Gov. Perry and I did a lot (thanks to the flurry of anti-Perry cabal -- who would ping each other because they need to appear like a large percentage of the commenters to a thread to do their "job") the more I found the facts and the truth about Rick Perry and posted it.

When do you see Sarah Palin announcing? How realistic is it for her to launch a national campaign at this late date and have people move to her over? She keeps things too private, which is off putting. That may be fine with the MSM but it makes potential voters nervous and uneasy about her depth, ability and sincerity to run for the White House.

I’ve been trying to gauge Perry by what other Texans think of him.

The concern I had with a Perry candidacy, at first, was that for the past 24 years, we had a Texan in the White House for 12 of those 24 years. I wondered, if possibly, there could be “Texas fatigue” with the voters. But after Barack Obama fatigue..... who the hell cares? Just get someone in there who can kick his butt and send him back to Thug Land, IL.

(But, “Texas fatigue” could be an issue with some voters. I won’t go into whether or not I think Rick Perry is,or has been, a good Governor. I do NOT want to cripple anyone who might be B. Hussein Obama’s opponent in 2012)

People couldn't get out of the way of last 2 major hurricanes (told to evacuate) and were stranded on freeways (dead stopped) w/o gas or food.

We are (as are people in all meto areas) fighting off light rail projects being pushed by ENVIRONMENTALISTS who endlessly tie road projects up in court (driving up costs) to stop infrastructure construction, as they tout toy trains that NO ONE wants but Leftists and unions. The lawyers, unions and environmentalists will work this gig as long as they can. They did it in Maryland with the ICC for over 40 years! It took electing a Republican governor (In Maryland!) and replacing local reps to get it approved, started and built. Now people can get to a job and get home to their families and the economic engine of road infrastructure works. A rail-like Metro that is subsidized in the D.C./Maryland metroplex (and others in "use" and in planning stages) is NOT the answer for Texas or any state that wants to stay independent and productive.

CW: We've been dealt a hand here in Texas (and if you've read my threads you know much of this) where we have a federal government that has not answered the call to protect the 1250 border miles Texas shares with Mexico. Gov. Perry does not believe a fence is the answer to illegals crossing the U.S.-Mexican border. He believes conservative ascendancy will. So we do the best with what we have ($100M/yr of our own state money put up to help secure an international border). We have a lot of crime to combat and pay for because of the illegal activity (drugs, human smuggling and trafficking) generated by an unsecured international border.

We can't refuse to educate or give health care, as everyone in every state is faced with the same situation, but since Perry is a border gov, he's held responsible for illegal aliens, where everyone vents their frustration about the problem using him as a whipping boy (and to make political points and take pot shots). Perry's asked for drones (went to Israel and asked how they protect Gaza Strip), has asked for 3000 people here on the TX border (crickets). Perry has set up an elite Texas Ranger unit to work on the border. Then we find out the Feds have been "running guns" across the border and we've had people killed because of that.

The Texas Dream Act was set up because we have a lot of kids here from the way the feds have allowed this to snowball. Students who have been in Texas for 3 years and graduated from a Texas high school get instate tuition (no benefits -- they pay their way) The entire Texas Senate voted for this in 1991. (The Texas Dream Act does NOT have all the hidden goodies the U.S. Congress "Dream Act" was trying to get into law.)

The Texas legislature meets every 2 years for 140 days and the governor is allowed to call Special Sessions. He called a Special Session because he had put "sanctuary cities" on the agenda and the legislature dropped the ball -- but the Senate and then the House left again -- giving Gov. Perry nothing to sign (Texas legislators also have elections they'll be facing and no doubt didn't want a vote on this shadowing their re-election bids).

In this just ended session, after about 3 tries to slip it into a bill, a law that required people to show their birth certificate to get a drivers license got through [The amendment, added by Rep. Jim Pitts, R-Waxahachie, to the education funding bill legislators needed to balance the state budget had originally been included in Senate Bill 9, the so-called "sanctuary cities" bill that failed in the special session. It also had appeared in an omnibus homeland security bill by Sen. Tommy Williams, R-The Woodlands, that died in the regular session......By putting it into law the state potentially undermines an ongoing lawsuit that argues DPS doesn't have authority to check legal status.]. However, the ink on that law was barely dry before it was overturned by a judge – as usual.

In this last Texas Legislative session Gov. Perry signed the Texas Photo ID Voting Law -- it took 6 years to get it through -- Only 6 states have a PHOTO Voter ID requirement.

Texas has a long history with Mexico and being "Mexican" does not mean that you aren't an American, or a Texan. A lot of Texans have Mexican heritage or are married to someone who does. Perry doesn't lead with his chin. He's a thoughtful man.

Rick Perry is as ready to fix this as anyone and understands it probably better than anyone running -- or commenting anonymously on a chat site.

The 2001 TEXAS Dream Act was passed by 100% of the Texas Senate:

I agree, Perry would want Palin’s endorsement far more than he needs Rudy's, although Rudy's endorsement would solidify a segment of Republicans wary of a Southern Texas candidate. Palin would solidify another key demographic of the Republican Party.

I'm a Palin fan and a Perry fan. I want to see how this thing plays out because first and foremost I'm a fan of the American Republic and want to see us take our country back from the international muslim marxists who currently occupy it.

I would support either Palin or Perry, and since right now neither is running I support both.

Up until a few days ago I thought Palin was getting ready to endorse Perry for the nomination. Recent events make that seem unlikely, at least for now.

I'm keeping my options open. I like Palin. I like Perry. To a lesser extent, I like Bachmann.

[I will not support Willard the Mitt under any circumstances. I seriously don't think he'll get the nomination but if he does, I will vote 3rd party, or write in Palin's name.]

Gov. Rick Perry's FORMULA:

First! Don't spend all the money!

Second! Have a fair and predictable tax and regulatory policy!

Third! A legal system that doesn't allow for over suing (lawsuit abuse) and make loser pay (no more jackpot justice).

There are many on this board who like Perry, myself included. You can look at the fact that he has been governor of Texas for 10 years to gage what Texans think. He was also the first Republican ever elected to the position of Lt. Governor in Texas. In the last election he wiped the floor with the Democrat and won over 50% in the 3 way primary race against Paulist Debra Medina and Rino insider, Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Pay attention to the Perry detractors who personally attack him. Cincinatuswife actually has good links if you want to really objectivly consider the man. You will hear wild accusations but remember he is an Eagle Scout, ex Air Force captain and C-130 pilot, member of the American Legion and just called for a national day pf prayer and fasting for our nation. He also called for the state to pray for rain to douse the wildfire ravaging west Texas.

CW: Most people do not think like you and the few others who hit every Perry thread trying to elevate this to a "sticking" point.

I'm not a mind reader but it strikes me that Gov. Rick Perry truly believed the HPV vaccine would have helped a lot of Texans who otherwise would not have gotten this protection against cervical cancer (it was to help with 3 strains of the human papilloma virus HPV).

Rick Perry's wife Anita Perry was a nurse for 17 years and still is involved in health care as First Lady of Texas, so I imagine health care is something this governor is more aware of than maybe your "average" governor and understood this to be a vaccine that would combat cervical cancer and cut heath care costs.

Then too Rick Perry grew up hard scrabble with little luxury as many have, yet vaccines traditionally have been made available to all.

Instead of applying the worst motives to Rick Perry, perhaps his critics could consider that his motives were good ones.

However, there are some here on FR who prefer to apply the worst motives to Rick Perry.

The most "vocal" either won't name a candidate they would support; say they would vote for Huntsman or Romney over Perry; say they would rather Obama stay in the White House than vote for Rick Perry.

There is an increase in oral cancer and a lot of it comes from oral sex the kids are having from the wonderful illustration Hillary Clinton's husband Bill Clinton so casually advertised for the world and children to see, where his sycophants in the media and education lapped it up. So I am not going to say Rick Perry was awful to want to protect women and young girls if it was possible to prevent this cancer (any strains of it - and oral or cervical). June 13, 2011: Texas Gov. Rick Perry blasted pro-abortion President Barack Obama on pro-life issues "Perry said that, under Obama “our federal tax dollars can now be used to fund abortion all over the world. With the stroke of a pen, abortion essentially became a U.S. foreign export......."

”Perry has pleased pro-life advocates in Texas many times with signing pro-life legislation — most recently signing an ultrasound bill allowing women to see them before an abortion and hopefully changing their minds on it. He has been strongly supported by pro-life groups. Perry supported or signed into law the Women’s Right to Know Act and the Prenatal Protection Act in 2003, parental consent law in 2005, and funding for alternatives to abortions in 2007 and 2009."

Rick Perry has been told to run too do nothing more than to take votes away from Ron paul. Ron Paul would straighten America out in about a week. Perry is a weak act.

The only "act" and I'll add disgrace, are 50% of Ron Paul supporters voting in a GOP Primary.

August Iowa Poll of Likely Caucus goers .........."Just 49% of Paul’s supporters would vote for the Republican nominee if their man does not win the nomination. That’s well below the total for other candidates.

Fifteen percent (15%) of Paul’s supporters would vote for President Obama over another Republican, and 22% would go the third party route. It’s important to remember that part of the congressman’s appeal is from his anti-war position which earns him support from many Democrats."......
