Mitt Romney: Downgrade 'not simply' president Obama's fault (softens tone)

Mitt Romney had a slightly softer tone in New Hampshire as he hit his message about the economy in the wake of the S&P downgrade in terms of how much blame President Obama should get than he dd last week, per the Wall Street Journal:

"I don't think it's simply the president's fault," Romney said in reply to a question at a Chamber of Commerce meeting in Concord, N.H., Monday. "I'm sure there are many people to share responsibility for the excessive spending in Washington over the past couple of decades."

But Romney said the president should have found a way "to work with Republicans, to work with Democrats to establish a relationship of trust to determine what can and couldn't be done politically." And he added that Obama "is primarily for responsible for the failure of this economy to re-ignite."

He also suggested he was referring to Republicans of years' past, not the crop of Tea Party-leaning freshmen elected in 2010.

This guy wants to run a successful campaign as a challenger? He apparently has never followed a reelection fight.

The gist of his message is that it is about the politics, not about the spending cuts. And last week, didn’t he say something about the problem with the stimulus was that it was not enough money?

He might as well give up now.

What the... how about pointing out the MASSIVE spending by the socialist on Pennsylvania Avenue? The regulatory monster that is our own Gov’t? The taxation that never ever ends? The entitlements, pork, and shameful spending of our hard earned tax dollars????

I don’t see Mitt as appreciating the significance of the problem or having the capacity to be show anger about it. Romney is the wrong guy for the time.

Put a fork in him, he’s done. About all I like about him is he has a good voice and that cool gray sideburn thing going on like Mister Fantastic from the Fantastic 4. Should get him the comic book vote.

Obama has increased the publicly held debt more in 2 1/2 years than Bush did in eight years. Three straight years of trillion dollar annual deficits belong to Obama. What he has done is unprecedented.
