Obama says U.S. is still a AAA country Photo 2:12pm EDT
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Monday blamed a downgrade in the United States' credit rating on political gridlock in Washington and said he would offer some recommendations on how to reduce federal deficits.
Obama said in a White House appearance that he hopes the Standard and Poor's downgrade of U.S. debt to AA-plus from AAA will give lawmakers a new sense of urgency to tackle deficit spending and said he did not believe the reductions could be carried out with spending cuts alone.

Obama will be remembered, no doubt, for his eloquence, second only to his unwavering, stalwart leadership.
This the the right answer. The tail is now wagging the dog. Freeze all discretionary spending now. Jose and Maria, yes, you can, in your own home town.
Agreed...
Pandering
There, I fixed it.
Pandering
Obama is mentally ill. He is completely detached from reality.
But for RVers, the U.S. is a Good Sam country.
Wait, I thought it was a KKK country. That is, while it wasn’t busy being the Tea Party’s fault. And shortly after that it was George Bush’s fault. Of course that was just a bit after it was the fault of those racists in the Tea Party. Who stopped being extremists just long enough to take up racism. Before they supported George W. Bush. And then there was that obstructionist phase. Yup, right after they were done being racists.
“ossifer I’m not drunk it’s just my blood alcohol content is .25”
I was thinking of that as a bumper sticker!
Wow so you want take out your envy on the old and the poor.
If you need to "save" a trillion dollars a year to bring creditors' demands in line, what tax "increase" could generate that kind of revenue? (short of complete confiscation, which wouldn't even be enough).
It's 99.99999% on the SPENDING side, and we know who & how got it that way...
I think we’re a AAA country too. We just have an FFF president. When you grade on the bell curve...we’re in it deep!
Yes, the US is an AAA country, and Canada is a CAA country. Had a dead battery once when I was in Canada and my AAA card meant that I got a jump and wasn’t charged for it.

Thanks. If American industry and agriculture really need foreigners to do jobs we won’t do, or wouldn’t have done before this double-dip recession, then we can grant them resident alien or temporary resident visas. But no amnesty. Reagan’s amnesty clearly didn’t work as intended if we’re dealing with this again now. And if today’s illegal aliens want to apply for the visas I mentioned, they can do so from their home countries.
But that’s just part of it. That doesn’t even address the 50% who don’t pay taxes and who voted for the current Oval Office occupant, nor their enablers in this codependent relationship: the tolerance romantics who joined the zombie parade in 2008 (or before).
I’m hoping the Tea party will be out protesting this clown when he arrives for the “Throw America Under the Bus” tour on the 15th of the month.
Reread my post. They should be last in line... after real waste is cut. If you can't find any waste in the current government programs, we don't have much to talk about.
But, I gotta say, if the actuaries are correct, and Medicare is really something like 40 Trillion in the whole in terms of the present value of promised benefits, and Medicare even more, something's gotta give. I'd prefer that whatever happened didn't also involve the complete destruction of all private wealth, but maybe you feel otherwise.
