Sen. Paul Statement on Misplaced Blame for U.S. Downgrade
Rand Paul ^ | Aug 8, 2011 | Rand Paul

Posted on 08/08/2011 11:49:39 AM PDT by markomalley

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sen. Rand Paul today issued a statement regarding the current mud-slinging and finger-pointing toward the Tea Party for the U.S. credit downgrade.

"Blaming the Tea Party for America's debt crisis and downgrade is like blaming the fireman for fires.

"The Tea Party has been fighting for a serious solution that would rescue our finances through immediate spending cuts, spending caps and most importantly, a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. With the support of the Tea Party, I offered the only solution that could have prevented our downgrade with our Cut, Cap and Balance plan.

"While Democrats would like to lay blame on the Tea Party for the current economic failure, it is their President who has failed in leadership, failed to lower unemployment, failed to rescue our economy, failed to prevent a downgrade of our debt, and failed to control spending."

- Axelrod: “TP’s fault” limit citizens participation in govt

- Geithner: “Didn’t really happen.”

- DNC- “Taxes too low and spend more”

- Chicoms- “The days of borrowing your way out of messes is over”

Those new Tea Party Congress things that voted for this idiotic budget compromise need to be primaried. They simply caved and caved bad. When they were running they were all fire and brimstone on how they would stand firm. Well most of them stood like a pile of jelly. I’m sure now they’re all saying they made a mistake and it won’t happen again. GET RID OF THEM. They’re just more of the same.

I sincerely hope that the people of this country of ours do not buy into the “Tea Party did it” baloney. I think that for the most part, people are starting to get wise to this sort of stuff. However, I worry that some could be fooled by him.

Yes Obama was handed a bad economy when he took office. What has he done to “change” anything? He has made it much, much worse. He will not budge in regards to his ideology. That is the problem. He will not work with the Republicans if their plan has anything to do with cutting spending and lowering the tax burden on everyone. He wants to continue to spend like a drunken sailor, tax the populace even more, and print money until it literally isn’t worth the paper it is printed on. That is not going to help Mr. Obama. Your way does not and will not save this country.

It is President Obama who has failed in leadership

It is President Obama who has failed to lower unemployment

It is President Obama who has failed to rescue our economy

It is President Obama who has failed to prevent a downgrade of our debt

It is President Obama who has failed to control spending

It is President Obama who is demon possessed and it is the god of this world, Satan, who is leading and influencing Obama to make these failed decisions

REMOVE this anti-christ messiah from our government!

It was Zer0 "who has failed in leadership, failed to lower unemployment, failed to rescue our economy, failed to prevent a downgrade of our debt, failed to control spending," and failed to put out a plan that the American people could look at for analysis.

We have an underhanded President who wants to rule rather than lead.

So, are you running?

These people were just elected (although even people more familiar with the system would have found it impossible to deal with an unyielding Dem majority and a crazy Dem President), they did NOT “cave,” they fought for what they could get, and if you’re so great, why don’t you put your posterior on the line and run for office. See how many people vote for you.

Like it or not, we have a system in this country where we have to get the majority, and we usually have to work incrementally, and that means convincing more people, not driving them away or exterminating them because they disagreed with the Great You on one issue or tactic.

We are not going to get back the Senate or the Presidency with attitudes like yours. Why not use that venom to attack the Dems instead?

Kind of curious why it is "Conservatives" always want to fight with their political allies for not being 100% pure instead of fighting the real enemies, the 0 Democrats?

Those people you want primaried passed CCB. Harry Reid and the Democrats killed it. So maybe, instead of shooting our allies in the back, we might, this one time, try focusing on the real enemies here.

Federal Deficit as % of GDP when Bush left office: 69%

Federal Deficit as % of GDP after three years of 0. 97%

No amount of obfuscation, demagoguery or spin can shift blame for the broken US Economy off the 0 Democrats.

Allow me to simply put your line back on you. Instead of attacking me why don't you save your breath for the Dems? You are of course entitled to your opinion but making excuses for people who promised to to hold the line and vote to get the budget under control and then turn around and vote the opposite is not an opinion I would espouse and one I adamantly disagree with. The Republicans had the Dems over a barrel and turned around and gave away the farm.

We listened to and voted for the new crew based on their words but their actions show something quite different. You want to keep voting for the same ole same ole go right ahead but don't you dare tell me that my attitude is the problem. I don't want a President or Senator or Congressman who find it as you say "impossible to deal with an unyielding Dem majority and a crazy Dem President." That's one of the most pathetic things I've heard here on FR. They were sent to Congress to deal with these crazies not agree with them.

No we don't have a majority but holding 1/3 of the power is a mighty tool. I can guarantee if the Dems were in this position they would wield that 1/3 power like a blazing sword from hell and not hide behind such lame excuses as we don't have a majority or the opposition are crazy and unyielding. You use what you've got, you go on the offense, you fight you don't turn a victory into a loss. What makes it even harder to take is they were scared of the Dems, they were scared the Dem controlled press would blame them for any repercussions if the debt ceiling wasn't raised. Well guess what they got blamed ANYWAY. I can guarantee that almost all here at FR with the exception of perhaps you and a few others knew that would happen. Our Congressmen should damn well have known it and stuck to their guns.

I don't care to run for any office but I do take my duties as a Jeffersonian Yeoman quite seriously. That means supporting those who support the constitution and are willing to fight for it. It also means not supporting those who run from from the crazy mean old opposition. Actions have consequences and I will no longer waste another second on those who make excuses or can not stand by their word. This country simply doesn't have any time left for those who refuse to stand by their convictions, we need real men and woman who do not fear the opposition and will not sit idly by playing defense when offense is the only way out.

So why don't you go ahead and run. Who knows maybe you'll even get elected. You can join the already useless bunch led by Boehner, McConnell, et al and stand like jelly in the face of the opposition. Or perhaps you can truly be bi-partisan and run as a Dem that way you wouldn't even have to pretend to stand for something.

By the way I have been known to spew a little venom on the Democratic Party. Here is a line from a post I made yesterday: "Democrats are the bane of this nation. I hate the lying, sniveling, communistic pieces of regurgitated snake sh*t."

Have a nice day.

I always stay focused on the enemy and that includes those who stand with them inadvertently or not. Without real leadership the battle is over. It’s hard enough fighting a battle against the enemy without having to be hobbled by incompetents who in the name of bi-partisanship, whatever the hell that’s supposed to mean, get in your way.

It’s unfortunate that Nancy Pelosi is a whacked out Democrat with such strange ideas. She showed real chutzpah, innovation and just plain good leadership abilities when dealing with her opposition. Even through the fog of war one has to admire a true fighter. Compare her with Boehner and tell me if she possessed the qualities that the Tea Party represents you wouldn’t rather have someone like her at the helm. You want to keep on supporting people who spit in your face, lie to you and can’t stand by their convictions, have at it. I’ll not put up with it any longer.

Also if you don’t like my opinions, don’t read them. I keep a list of those who I prefer not to listen to or communicate with here on my desk. No your not on it. Not even after your flame against me here.

Yes, but then they surrendered their principles and voted with the Speaker for giving the President 2 Trillion more to spend!

They were not sent to congress to compromise!

BOTH Parties are guilty for this!

The GOP leadership will never do what is necessary to bring spending under control.
