Jeffs wrote of God telling him to take more and more young girls as brides “who can be worked with and easily taught.”

Just about anyone who works with sexually abused children will tell you this is classic grooming by pedophiles. HLN thinks he'll go away for a long time--I can only hope that's true. I'm encouraged that this is Texas.

Helen Mar Kimball was tricked and “groomed” by her own parents and Joey Smith to give in to Smiths sexual demands at age 14....

“Van Wagoner recounts the story of how the 37-year-old Smith attempted to persuade 15-year-old Helen Mar Kimball (the daughter of Heber C. Kimball) to be sealed to him as his wife. The young Kimball stated that Smith told her, “If you will take this step, it will insure your eternal salvation and exaltation and that of your father’s household and all of your kindred” (p.293).

Helen would later regret that she acquiesced to Smith’s proposal. “I would never have been sealed to Joseph had I known it was anything more than ceremony. I was young and they deceived me by saying the salvation of our whole family depended on it” (p.294).

Right, Miz. But the problem is as soon as he goes away (if the jury decides he does) another man will step up and take his place.

When I see the apologists talk about ‘wholesome’ and family and bread baking - I know exactly where they are going.

They're going to say Jeffs was a bad man, but basically the FLDS is OK. They are good parents (except the water boarding) and the girls have free agency, there is no force (except being brain washed that you are going to the hell of all hells.) etc. Bank on it.
