It's been a great year so far for criminals at Kennedy Airport -- they're doing more business than ever and rarely getting caught, The Post has learned.
Larcenies are up nearly 30 percent from the first half of 2010 -- and the arrest rate is a pathetic 9 percent. The 299 complaints filed this year have led to only 28 arrests.
Included in the figures are thefts from baggage carousels, swiped property left unattended, and thefts by baggage handlers and TSA employees. Not included are picked pockets, thefts from cars in airport lots and shoplifting. The most frequently stolen items are laptops and iPads.
And the problem may be more serious than even the statistics show.

I’d say it was the same or worse forty years ago.
Port Authority Police bosses, a source said, pressure cops to downgrade the value of stolen property so thefts can be filed as petit rather than grand larcenies...Rhetorical question: who's paying the salaries, benefits, vacations, medical care, pensions of these "Port Authority Police bosses"?
Real question: "What steps can we take to fire them, or, if the answer is 'none', what steps can we take to defund the entire operation?"
THEFT at JFK begins when you enter a parking lot.
Dunno.
At ATL the baggage carousal is enclosed. To remove baggage you have to show a ticket with matching baggage check tags.
I live in Atlanta and the last time I had to show any baggage check stub was a few years ago. I travel many times every year. I cannot remember the last any airport in the US asked me for my baggage check stub. In fact, the same is true overseas also.
Unions, mafia, what’s the difference?
That granny ain't gettin' past the xray machine without a full body and colostomy bag scan.
Not on OUR watch.

Someone broke int'a my car and stole the xmsirius radio.
Now if people start showing up driving new Caddies with fur coats around their girlfriends' shoulders, someone's gonna get whacked. ;-)
TSA employees do commit crimes.
i haven’t seen any evidence they’ve ever prevented one.
(tests very often get guns etc past them.
and security experts say there are many ways to get even plastic explosives past, or even simply avoid the screenings for weapons by using an “inside” worker, etc.)
it is a huge waste of tax dollars.
almost as big as the EPA.
and every real incident on airplanes since 9/11,
has been stopped by UNARMED passengers...
I have to admit that I have not checked baggage in a long time... Only carry-on.
