It’s what happens when people of generally conservative disposition find themselves seized by a failure of nerve and, desperate to calm themselves, adopt the protective coloration of a liberal on one or another issue.

This is an excellent explanation of some of Bush's later moves (Part D, for example). I think he was made so defensive from the constant, vicious attacks by the press that he was desperate to make himself liked and prove he was a nice guy by their standards (in other words, lefty and statist). Sad.

In any case, I think while most people realize that there were major errors in Bush's later years, it's nothing compared to what Bambi has done in a mere 2.5 years.

Wasn’t the Part D offered up after he was slapped down by Republicans when he tried to reform SS allowing a percentage of the SS to be invested by the individual?
