(CBS News)
Former White House adviser David Axelrod on Sunday pinned responsibility for the recent U.S. economic downgrade on the Tea Party movement, arguing that the group's political "brinksmanship" during debt ceiling negotiations "brought us to the brink of a default" -- and that, subsequently, "this is essentially a Tea Party downgrade."
In an appearance on CBS' "Face the Nation," Axelrod, currently a campaign strategist for President Obama, said the U.S. economic downgrade was "largely a political analysis" and that "there's a broad consensus that [the U.S.] is still the safest place to invest your money."
Nevertheless, he argued, the Tea Party was responsible for blocking a comprehensive deal that could have prevented such a downgrade.
"We can debate the strength of the analysis that they did, the history of S&P and so on," Axelrod told CBS' Bob Schieffer, of Standard & Poor's, the credit rating agency that downgraded the U.S. market from AAA to AA+ on Friday. "They made an egregious analytical error here but theirs was largely a political analysis... They want to see the kind of solution that the president has been fighting for... that will be balanced, that will include revenues, that will deal with some of our long-term issues."
"For months, the president was saying, let's get together, let's compromise," Axelrod continued. "We thought we had such an arrangement with the Speaker of the House... then he went back to his caucus; he had to yield to the most strident voices in his party. They played brinksmanship with the full faith and credit of the United States. This was the result in that."
Now that we have heard the talking point over and over from the Evil Party, does anyone think the Stupid Party can get their message out in tthe next few months?
It’s the spending, stupid!
Waa Waa. The buck stops where?
What you said.
HEY GOPers WAKE UP.
Anybody there? Hello?
the RinoCracy knows whats commin’...and they’re gonna spin it like a top...because the Constitutional Government coming is going to weld the cash spigot shut.
This is about to get VERY interesting.....
I hope to buy stock in orange jump suits. We need to show these treasonist bastards that we will not let this go unpunished, we must pressure our newly elected after 2012 to bring these enemies front and center. If we allow this to go unpunished they will be more embolden to repeat it again
This is how Rat spin will go. Axlerod is just one of the vermin.
It’s the Obama Downgrade. We must insist forcefully that that is what it is and what it shall be called. We must refuse to acknowledge or understand it by any other name, and ridicule those who call it by any other name unmercifully.
He’s right. The Tea Party will be affected by this downgrade in the form of lost investments and higher interest rates. We are also smart enough to know where the blame lies.
Presidential upgrade time. We could elect Morris the Cat and not do this badly.
Wrong again Ax. It’s a communist party downgrade. You Communists are going down.
Ha!
Love it.
Axelrat didn’t look at the numbers:

Or maybe he did.
Yea, you just keep believing that Ax.
"Cut, Cap & Balance" offered $4T in cuts which is what the ratings agencies asked for. It passed the House under Boehner with a bipartisan vote. CCB was the "Tea Party" plan.
The White House mocked it as "duck, dodge and dismantle" and Reid, Mr. Dead-on-Arrival, wouldn't even allow a debate in the Senate.
Once again the Democrats refuse to accept responsibility for anything. Bad economy? Bush's fault. Failed stimulus? Earthquakes & oil prices. Downgrade? Tea Party's fault.
We should be screaming at the top of our lungs because Obama wanted a CLEAN debt ceiling increase with no offsets period. He was not concerned for a nanosecond about the credit rating. Neither was Geithner. Members of their party were even suggesting it was racist to oppose a clean increase!
Todays Dems are among the most vile and despicable people to ever grace the national state.
