Dean: What is tea party smoking?
Former Democratic National Chairman Howard Dean says the tea party was "totally unreasonable" in the deficit-reduction debate and warns that Republicans are being held hostage.
"This is a tea party problem," Dean said Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation." "They are totally unreasonable and doctrinaire and not founded in reality. I think they've been smoking some of that tea, not just drinking it."
"This is ridiculous what's going on here," he said.
The firebrand Democrat and former Vermont governor said the Standard & Poor's downgrade of the nation's credit is "a good thing" because it underscores the need to raise revenue to address the nation's fiscal crisis.
But he said certain elements of the Republican Party make it impossible for reasonable people to do what Dean said is right -- raising taxes on the wealthy.

How the heck did we get on the defensive over Obama’s downgrade? Why aren’t we the ones attacking?!?!?
I LOVE IT....PICK YOUR PARTY....the TEAT party? OR...the TEA party!
They had control for 2 years and all they did was spend spend spend. They could’ve raised taxes, they didn’t
They have no credibility now.
So, Dr. Dean, asking government to stay at the 2011 levels and not grow at 8% / year forever, without regard to the growth of the economy, is completely unreasonable?
Ask anyone outside San Francisco the question “Is the size of government in 2011 too big, too small or just right”.
Almost everyone will say it’s either too large or just right. Tell them they have just agreed with what the Tea Party was pushing during the debt ceiling debate and a percentage of them will think you’re lying.
I agree. The GOP should have been on all of the Sunday news shows blaming Obama for the Navy Seal deaths. They died because of Obama’s need to spike the football.
I believe the non-racist version is: kettle calling pot black...
Coming to a store near you ,” Tea Parties fault “ nine out of ten Dems can’t be wrong ,but never right
I just saw that robot calling the Tea Party “economic terrorists” and all this divisive rhetoric. Remember Obama’s speech about civility a few months ago? The Dems are the biggest hypocrites ever.

The left is not used to serious, dedicated opposition. The more the left complains about the Tea Party, the it becomes obvious that it’s been getting a free ride, and those days are over. When the D’s are in charge, it’s an unmitigated disaster. Period.
“When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny”
Looks like liberty is holding its own or pulling ahead!
Democrat responsibility wrapped up in 3 shorts words: "Not my fault"
it underscores the need to raise revenue to address the nation’s fiscal crisis.... I think the S&P explicitly pointed out the Dems habit of spending what they ain’t got.
From Para-Ord.45, yesterday comes this quote, which needs to be stated often!
-S&P exec John Chambers,
But $4 trillion would be a good down payment. We thought that..if policy makers could deliver the goods on that, then that would be a strong sign on our political scores and eventually on our projections on the fiscal side.
S&P has already said it may slash the Triple-A rating if a debt ceiling deal is not accompanied by what it deems is a credible plan to cut the $14.3 trillion federal [debt] by $4 trillion.
S&Ps Chambers is saying the ratings agency wants to see at least a $4 trillion deal, one that would come with bipartisan support.
There was only ever one plan that did what S&P said was required $4 trillion in cuts with bipartisan support. Thatd be Cut, Cap, and Balance a plan that cut $4 trillion and got bipartisan support in the House of Representatives.
As Democrats tonight, and some Republicans, lash out and blame the Tea Party for causing the United States to lose its credit rating, it is worth pointing out that only the Tea Party offered up a plan to avoid what happened.-
Howie suggesting the Partiers are on drugs. That’s very funny.
The strange thing is that some liberals actually believe this crap.
