WASHINGTON As Rick Perry gears up for a presidential bid, Democrats also are making preparations dusting off years of opposition research, sharpening attack points, designing anti-Perry websites and, for the most part, awaiting his entry with more eagerness than anxiety.
Theyre not trying to tip the GOP primary. But in seeking to tar Perry as a flawed extremist, they want to ensure that as voters beyond Texas get to know him, he wont be able to shake that image later.
"He has a pretty poor record as governor of Texas on a lot of measures on wage growth, on job growth, on health care," said Bill Burton, head of a new pro-Obama political action committee, Priorities USA, and until recently the deputy White House press secretary.
.....Texas Democrats will offer a one-stop shop to expose what they see as Perrys warts, gaffes and failures. Theyve created a website (www.meetrickperry.com) devoted to that cause. Its fundraising tool for now, but it will go live when and if Perry jumps into the race, perhaps this month.
"Well do everything we can to introduce him to the American public," Richie said. "We have been working diligently to put material together."

I don't care who yoiu support or don't support!
OMG! The humanity!
Perry thought Al Gore was a truthful, sane person back when.
Isthisnickcool is posting from INSIDE the closet looks like!
I an trying to explain to you that ALL Texans get a bargain in that NONE of us pay STATE INCOME TAX.
Therefore, TX teachers have more take home pay than some in other states that have to pay state income taxes.
Why do you think Rush Limbaugh moved out of NY? I know he makes a lot more than teachers but he got tired of paying state income taxes.
Do you really think the standard of living of teachers in NY or CA is higher than teachers in TX? NO!
You mean like it did Huckabee, McCain, or some of the other candidates who lost in the primaries who have gone on to large speaking fees and influential endorsements?
I have not heard of any big speaking deals for McCain and The point about Huckebee is well taken but what did the other also rans get? Rudy is the only one I remember!!
shield,
While I like Kay Bailey-Hutchison, she is a RINO go along get alonger.
I would not vote for her for dog catcher in my town.
Perry, an opportunist. BUT, better than Mitt Romney, by only a little.
The best compliment you can pay a Republican these days! :)
Property taxes in Texas are county or city taxes, not state taxes.
Did you read my post?
Pay taxes to county, county gives ‘em to state, state redistributes.
Call it what you want— they’re taxes. And they go up every blinking year. Teachers pay ‘em just like everyone else.
The property taxes which are sent to the state and “redistributed” are the ones funding school districts. Only the “rich” school districts get their funds “redistributed.” The “poor” ones don’t. Property taxes also go to pay for municipal services like police and fire departments (in the city) or county road maintenance (in the country).
If you think you pay too much in property taxes, move to a county which has lower.
Ha!
Thanks for the ping and the link!!
I think Perry has a lot of targets (EPA and Obamacare up top) and he’ll run a tight ship.
Has there been any Sunday that McCain has not been either quoted or on one of the Sunday morning talk shows? Not many others have had the exposure that Palin has had either. With the following she has she would still have influence even if she was not the nominee.
Re: Teachers and taxes.
No one in Texas pays state income tax.
We pay property taxes.
But it really isn’t fair to rank salaries in different states for any group because the cost of living in Texas is a lot less than say NY, CA, etc. and that is just one variable, I’m sure there are many more.
“Earl Black, a Rice University political scientist, said Perry’s habit of taking forceful stances will make for unusually clear distinctions with Obama.
Compared to, say, Mitt Romney, “he’d be a bolder nominee”
That’s what we need, someone who is not afraid of making clear distinction between Obama’s socialist agenda vs. a conservative agenda, to return the US to greatness.
Legislation authored by border legislators Pat Haggerty and Eddie Lucio establishes an important study that will look at the feasibility of bi-national health insurance. This study recognizes that the Mexican and U.S. sides of the border compose one region, and we must address health care problems throughout that region. Thats why I am also excited that Texas Secretary of State Henry Cuellar is working on an initiative that could extend the benefits of telemedicine to individuals living on the Mexican side of the border
that could extend the benefits of telemedicine
You have a problem with medical advancements that benefit all of mankind?
Thank you....that about says it all!
I have a problem with an elected official- especially an alleged conservative, kowtowing to Mexicans and illegals with the promise of healthcare at the expense of US taxpayers.
