Little more than a year ago, most Americans did not know enough about the Tea Party to have an opinion. Now, more people have opinions, and they are hardly positive.
The percentage of people with an unfavorable view of the Tea Party in a New York Times/CBS News Poll this week was higher than it has been since the first time the question was asked, in April 2010. Forty percent of those polled this week characterized their view as not favorable, compared with 18 percent in the first poll.
In the first poll, a plurality, 46 percent, said they had not heard enough about the Tea Party to have an opinion (an additional 14 percent were undecided). Now, just 21 percent said they had not heard enough.
The Tea Party may have benefited early on from people not really knowing exactly what it was.
While 18 percent of people in the April 2010 poll identified themselves as Tea Party supporters, just 4 percent of those polled had actually attended a meeting or given money to the movement.
Without any central organization or policy platforms, the Tea Party became a vehicle for all sorts of amorphous frustrations. Many people came to it more out of anxiety about the economy or anger toward Washington than for any specific policy position.
On Election Day, while 4 in 10 voters said they were Tea Party supporters, many might not have known what they were signing up for.
The debate over the debt ceiling gave people a more concrete picture: Tea Party groups and members of the Tea Party caucus in the House and Senate many of them elected in the Republican sweep of 2010 insisted that they would not raise the debt ceiling under any circumstances.

I recommend any Freeper spend a few hours going to random boards across the net...places you would normally never go. I don’t mean Porn sites, just things like music, art or whatever.
The hate out there for conservatives and Christians is widespread and ‘diverse’ but it all has one thing in common. In every single discussion you encounter hating on the Tea Party or people of faith, that discussion will have at least one hardcore Leftist stirring the pot. That person is well versed in Dem talking points and has Alynski down pretty well.
But I am starting to see blowback from young people, surprising as that sounds. As an example, an ongoing war I’m in on has the majority of people fighting back against PETA/Planned Parenthood BS...and its mainly younger people doing the fighting... Mainly because they are PO’d that they have been lied to by these groups.
There may yet be reason to hope.
Poll of 100 people...80% self-identified as Dems who voted vor Obama, all residing in the zip code 10034..margin of error +/- 72%
KATE ZERNIKE has a hard-on for the Tea Party she is obsessed with it. Google her, she has Daddy issues, maybe her Dad was a Republican. I ignore most of what she writes or says, she is delusional and thinks like most at the Old Grey Lady that they can wish and write opinion into existence. We really got under their skin in this debt debate. They are used to shrieking like little children when they don;t get their way and us caving as Conservatives. I think our push-back kinda threw them for a loop. Too bad Alinsky didn’t have a chapter on trying to demonize amorphous leaderless movements. They are flailing around trying anything to return to to 1975, when the Walter Cronkite used to tell us what to think. Want to send a liberal into orbit just keep telling them OBama is done in 2012, I do it to my lib friends on Facebook and get so hateful. They know that when Obongo is thrown out that we will have our repudiation and victory will be complete. That the ideological argument can be settled with quantifiable data.
It’s best to ignore them..not worth reading..The Dems know the Senate is gone for them next year...and probably the WH..so they’re gonna throw a massive temper tantrum for the next 15 months..it’s gonna get a lot worse..
Lets see, congress 82% unfav,TP 40% unfav or 60% NOT UNFAVORABLE and fro the uber Left NYT AND CBS.
Not bad not bad at all
This poll is meaningless since the TEA Party is NOT an organized political party but a growing movement based on Constitutional liberties and principles. The Slimes and its ever shrinking lib readership can get bent.
It's well organized and funded...
In other headlines....A plurality of articles written by Kate Zernike display Tea Party Derangement Syndrome on a massive scale....
What? No mention of the Koch brothers??? Every good little progressive knows that the Tea Party is just the evil arm of the Koch brothers.
It’s a push pull on a slow news day for Christ’s sake...Pinchaloaf knows Bobo isn’t getting reelected; but give anti-heros Pinch (and ex rel Keller) this much — they know the Tea Party is the new ‘BrotherweCANTsParadigm’, and is going to undo every rotten thing they’ve done in the last three years.
And determined as hell. They will argue the craziest crap to support their position and resort to the race card without fail. Hell I say one scream bloody murder racism over “Yankee”.
Definitely organized from the top. People think these online fights are a waste, but for every poster there are 100 readers. That’s what makes the battles worthwhile...exposing the insanity. And now that people encounter these Moonbats literally everywhere on and off-line, they are more and more forced to pay more attention to it than ever.
We are making a difference. With the older and younger alike. The left can no longer hide their real positions and the genpub does not like what they see.
Only thing is do we have enough time left to turn it around before the big crash?
You know you’re doing it right when you’re hated by the right people.
Any poll that fails to show its methodology isn’t worth reporting or commenting on. This is a waste of electrons and internet thingies.
