Disapproval Rate for Congress at Record 82% After Debt Talks (Teaparty 40% Unfavorably) NYT Slimefest
The debate over raising the debt ceiling, which brought the nation to the brink of default, has sent disapproval of Congress to its highest level on record and left most Americans saying that creating jobs should now take priority over cutting spending, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News Poll.
A record 82 percent of Americans now disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job the most since The Times first began asking the question in 1977, and even more than after another political stalemate led to a shutdown of the federal government in 1995.
More than four out of five people surveyed said that the recent debt-ceiling debate was more about gaining political advantage than about doing what is best for the country. Nearly three-quarters said that the debate had harmed the image of the United States in the world.
Republicans in Congress shoulder more of the blame for the difficulties in reaching a debt-ceiling agreement than President Obama and the Democrats, the poll found.
The Republicans compromised too little, a majority of those polled said. All told, 72 percent disapproved of the way Republicans in Congress handled the negotiations, while 66 percent disapproved of the way Democrats in Congress handled negotiations.
The public was more evenly divided about how Mr. Obama handled the debt ceiling negotiations: 47 percent disapproved and 46 percent approved.
The publics opinion of the Tea Party movement has soured in the wake of the debt-ceiling debate. The Tea Party is now viewed unfavorably by 40 percent of the public and favorably by just 20 percent, according to the poll. In mid-April 29 percent of those polled viewed the movement unfavorably, while 26 percent viewed it favorably.

Actually that's a good sign for Teapartiers.
These approval rate for congress do not matter! The Reason? Voters don’t vote for “congress” the vote for their own particular Representative. You will often find the polls say people disapprove of congress by and 80/20 margin, but the like their own congressman.
What they were trying not to say was 60 percent favor the Tea Party.
I wonder if there will ever come a point where the members of CONgress realize that they’re screwed no matter what they do... so they do what’s best for America?
Naaaaaah! Sorry, dreaming a bit there.
Traditionally, the disapproval rate is equal to the rate of reelection in the next election.
“The publics opinion of the Tea Party movement has soured in the wake of the debt-ceiling debate”.....
Ha! Ha!.....In your dreams!....Where do these so called opinions come from? New York downtown?
Once again, the horrendously dysfunctional mental state of the American electorate...
“We’re sending you to DC to get a handle on spending... so get it done.. Wait! We said JOBS! It’s all about JOBS! What’s the matter with... we said the ENVIRONMENT! Stop global warming! What were you thinking... we wanted you to stand tough and.. COMPROMISE! Why don’t you ever list... Tax those millionaires and billionaires and corporate jet owners... Stop the wars! Where are the JOBS? Make the jobs stop spending so much debt on the environment and end global wars! Where’s my warming money?? I want my Tibet!!!”
“OMG, Congress, you never look out for THE LITTLE GUY!!!”
NYT and media lie again.
I remember when Pelosi’s Congress was down to 11% support on March 22, 2010.
CBS poll http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20000937-503544.html
This Congress may be low, but it’s not record low as the msm is proclaiming.
Which makes Congress far more popular than the New York Times.
So the Tea Party beats Congress by 42 points? Can you say winner?
100-40 = 60
“A record 82 percent of Americans now disapprove of the way Congress is handling its job....”
.
Especially when one considers that these “representatives” assign themselves privileges that the rest of the country are denied.
Only answer to this: TERM LIMITS!!!
Well! It seems that even the Voice of the Rat Party is pointing out that the Tea Party is a danger to their beloved Socialistas.
It is important to remember that these polls are generally weighted towards the rats to begin with, so to get numbers like this, the reality is probably even worse.
It is this that makes me doubly angry about the capitualtion of Boehner, McConnell and the rest of the “Leadership.” They quite literally had the rats on the ropes. The rats read these polls more than even the RINOs, and they knew that they had no support, they were toeing the line on a screamingly unpopular item and a host of rat Senators are up for re-election this next year with this issue fresh in the voters minds. The Republicans held every advantage. And they not only let them off, they gave them everything they wanted.
R - 24%
D - 32%
I - 39%
Misleading, I suspect 70 percent of voters are pre-committed to reelecting their own member.
The so-called LITTLE GUY is fully clueless.
