The people advocating a violent response are idealizing the situation. An effective violent response would help deter future attacks, but only if done properly (a few armed and trained people with some wall behind them). One armed person with a mob around him will probably just end up dead.

I'm fairly sure that if you turn on the light the roaches will scatter. Even people in a mob don't want to get shot.

It reminds me of a Tom Selleck movie. when he stands one against 7 or 8 with a gun trained on the bad guys, the leader says you can only get 2 or 3 of us. Selleck says "I'm going to kill you first, do you care much about what happens after that?"

Pull out your Colt and blow one of these adolescent Black thugs away and the rest will run to get as far away from you as possible. They are not brave, they only attack as mobs with overwhelming numbers in their favor. Best to pick the largest male in the crew, even though it's often the girls who are the ringleaders. Better visuals when you go to the jury, plus a good chance he will have had a record of crime.
