For a while, this country toyed with the idea that political speech should be protected. You know, if you wanted to stand on a soapbox and criticize or make fun of the government, or the employees or representatives of the government, maybe that should be protected in some way.
Then we said, "The heck with it!" and just decided to arrest anyone who got a little "mouthy". Maybe a good beating will teach them to respect their betters and know their place.
