the only thing stopping the GOP from a clean sweep in 11/2102, and standing in the way of a massive victory for the WH is- the GOP...

The next election is over a year away.
God only knows if there will even be an America left by then,
or what condition it will be in.

Only if they show up to vote. All the hopey-changey excitement is long gone. No more enthusiasm among the base. And all the obama money is gone.

On a recent trip of almost a thousand miles, I actually saw more Kerry/Edwards bumper stickers than obama.

Obama delivered on his promise to help prevent an economic collapse..

B.S. The Fed pumped money into the banks and otherwise provided liquidity; Obama did nothing.

The issue for the Republicans is coming up with a good candidate.

And I beg to differ that social issues don’t matter...

Obama’s secret weapon will be that any criticism of his policies will be used by his campaign and the echoed by his lapdog media as racist. If the Repubs try to attack him they will be ripped to shreds by the press and networks. As I see it, the only thing the GOP can do is say they stand for those Americans who still believe in liberty.

I’m not so sure.

Even if they paid no federal income taxes, many have lost their jobs and otherwise been severely affected by Obama’s policies. Food and gas prices, especially.

Even in good times, Obama would have a tough re-election. The 2008 election – featuring a weak GOP candidate, in a terrible political environment for Republicans - obscured the inescapable fact of modern politics: This is a 50-50 nation, controlled at the presidential level by independents.

Obama has no political savvy at all.
He couldn’t lead a thirsty horse to water.

He is blessed with a pack of idiot Democrats in Congress led by two Presidential ass-kissers, and tax and spenders, and the fact that his race makes him a god like figure for the Media to slobber over and paint over his delapidated facade.

I think social issues do matter. People dislike Obama not only for his economic non-policies, but because of his support for every wacky hard-left social position out there combined with his support for Islam.

I think one of the problems with focusing too exclusively on one issue, such as debt (which in fact is the result of many other things and can’t be dealt with in isolation), we run the risk of getting a libertarian-type candidate who really won’t work up much excitement or offer much possibility of change (since libertarians and the left often coincide on social issues).

Obtuse writers such as Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen
do not have a clue about the single most powerful dynamic to hit politics in this nation since the Civil War.

Lincoln was elected as an antiestablishment, brand new party candidate. He captured the imagination of the electorate with a down home wisdom and grit your teeth and do the right thing ethic that catapaulted him into office.

Not since Lincoln has there been a candidate able to captivate the electorate with a vision for the heart of America, purity of principle, and a fearless spit in the devil’s eye character. Not until now and not until Sarah.

Like many erudite institutional thinkers these guys ignore the 2 ton gorilla and are captivated by the preening marmasot. It’s going to be an exciting election. They believe in their ivory tower wisdom and ignore the spirit of the people. Ain’t it great!

Obama advisers acknowledge the challenges posed by the economy, but argue that voters will like his rescue of the auto industry, signing of Wall Street reform, championing of new restrictions on credit-card issuers, repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” investments in clean energy and victory on insurance protection for people with preexisting conditions.

"voters will like" ??????

If he runs on these, he'll make Walter Mondale look like a winner.

Decent analysis.

What can Obama run on? That if his policies hadn’t been implemented, we’d be much worse off than we are now? That’s a hypothetical and people will wonder HOW we could be much worse off-it’s really bad now.

Will Tea Party attacks work? The Tea Party is not a group of people, per se, it’s a set of primarily fiscal principles that not only conservatives, but indies support.

If he moves to the center (which it’s doubtful he can get away with), he’ll alienate his base. They’ll still vote for him, but the enthusiasm which translates into donations and a ground game will not be there.

“Voters generally seem to find him likable and hard-working, and uniformly give him higher marks than Republicans in Congress.”

Hard Working?

The continued inability of an insider to not see what the rest of us do.
