John Kitzhaber (D) and House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) of his resignation, which will be effective as of 11:59 p.m. Serving as a U.S. Congressman has been the greatest honor of my life. An 18 year old woman alleged that he fondled her inappropriately last Christmas, and only now "decided" to say something about it. Nothing has been proven, and AFAIK the only allegations are hers alone.
As a Rat, it's good he's gone. As an increasingly erratic member of Congress who's own staff demanded he get help for mental illness before they resigned en masse, it's good he's gone.
But we live in a country where the merest lie from a woman can destroy a man's reputation without either investigation or conviction, and that is wrong, wrong, wrong.
