Like the previous poster said...you’ll revert to your training. They were trained to call 911 and wait for the police or to be slaughter which ever came first. Sad isn’t it, somewhere in there you expect to hear sheep bleating. The govts various arms have worked long and hard to train us that initiative is a bad thing. Only the govt is smart enough and has the authority to do the tough jobs. Its preferable for you to wind up dead rather than thinking for yourself and taking action.

As noted, most people in a crisis of any kind aren't worth spit. I have been present at many fires, floods, industrial accidents that included death and dismemberment, vehicle crashes, home accidents etc. Most people simply lock up and are useless. You cannot train for every event but simple skills can make you more ready to deal mentally with a crisis. Learn to maintain calm. Important in shooting as well as other activities. A calm person is the most in control. Remember the United Airlines flight that crashed in Sioux City? The local Airport fire chief had this ridiculous red suit he put on every time there was a crisis. He was metered and deliberate in his actions. Many made fun of him. On the day of the crash he saved many by simply walking into the mess in his red suit and telling them to follow him out to safety. Lots of survivors credited him with there lives.

One of my favorite lines is from the Terminator movies:

“Come with me if you want to live”.

I have been in two civilian shootings and in both my instinct was to draw first and shoot - for sure saved my life in one. Action beats reaction every time.
