You have to remember, John D, that the Conservatively Holier Than Thou Brigade does not care about actually winning the general election in November.
They only care about being able to brag, after a bloodbath in November, that their nominee was 100% Politically Pure by their standard.
On the contrary, I'm against Perry precisely BECAUSE I want to win in November. The reasons the Perry brigade are giving for Perry's "electability" are the same reasons the dummycrats used when they nominated "more electable" John Kerry in 2004. Just because some flip-flopping party hack with nice hair and an "acceptable" record for his party's base wins a bunch of times against laughable "opponents" in a state that ALWAYS elects his party, doesn't somehow make him more "electable" nationwide. Ohio doesn't want to vote for more Massachusetts liberals or Texas compassionate conservatives. Voters are sick and tired of that.
I've always tried to back the most conservative candidate who is likely to win in November (and that certainly ain't Perry in this election cycle... you might as well proclaim Orrin Hatch is "Obama's worse nightmare" because that makes as much sense as claiming Obama is scared to death of Perry) Because of that I've been called everything from a "extreme right wing purist" to a "RINO lover" on this forum, which means I'm probably neither.
But since the data about the candidate's policy record and popularity is clearly not on the side of the "well informed" Perry supporters, we're instead treated the same two talking points chanted endlessly:
1) Whining "nobody's perfect" (when we never demanded perfection and simply pointed out Perry's track record is mediocre and FAR from ideal),
2) In the same breath, insisting Sarah Palin's endorsements ARE perfect and must NEVER be questioned ("Palin says Perry is conservative. She ain't good enough for ya?!").
Yeah, that will win over more freepers to your side! I guess it worked wonders for Carly Fiorina!

What world do you live on?
Here on Earth, Tea Party-led Conservatives delivered the Dems an electoral bloodbath this past November...
