DETROIT -- For 2011, General Motors' return to electric-powered vehicles has been a sellout success, the U.S. automaker said Monday.

GM said the production run for 2011 was set at 4,488 for the hybrid Chevrolet Volt and they've all been sold.

Through June, GM had sold 3,071 Volts, while Nissan had sold 3,894 Leafs.

GM, meanwhile, has increased its production schedule to 16,000 for 2011 and plans to make 60,000 in 2012. Eventually, GM plans to make 100,000 Volts per year.

On the bright side, chances are that these will be driven by some government subsidized future organ donor.

A lot of these cars were “sold” to the dealers, who claimed the $7,000 federal subsidy, and have yet to be sold to private buyers.

GM was a first year sellout as a gov’t owned company.

And how much per unit do they get from the government for pumping out these go-carts..? I’m sure the kick backs and incentives pay their costs even without selling them.

Selling 4500 a success? I'm pretty sure I read in Iacocca's first book
that the Mustang's first year sales were over 400,000. Probably a
bigger profit margin too, without the benefit of either Federal tax
incentives, or Federal agency fleet sales.

‘...and I would like to introduce the team responsible for convincing buyers of the value of the Volt. Immediately behind me is Larry, then from left to right his brother Darryl, his other brother Darryl, his other brother Darryl...’

Gee...how much profit did GM make from this “sellout”? I don’t expect to see any Volts on the road except as abandoned vehicles.

I have never seen a Volt. On the other hand, I have seen thousands of Camrys, Accords, Lexuses and BMWs just in the past few weeks. A rousing success

Yes, as many have pointed out:

* 5000 cars is a joke
* many of these were purchased for federal fleeets per O’s mandate
* those that were purchaased by individuals were heavily subsidized

What a joke - that this can be trumpeted as a great success just shows how stupif they (0 / dems / GM / MSM ) think we are.

I’ve got a customer who drives one. I guess he likes it. I haven’t asked about it. He’s an airline pilot.
