Rooney Wants to Examine Defense, Intelligence Cuts Before Deciding on Debt Deal
Palm Beach Post ^ | July 31st, 2011 | George Bennett

U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Tequesta, says he wants more information about potential cuts to defense and security spending before he decides whether to support a bipartisan debt-ceiling compromise.

Rooney said he hopes to talk Monday with House Armed Services Committee Chairman Buck McKeon, R-Calif., and Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Mich., about the impact of potential cuts.

“If they can both live with it, then it would be much easier for me to support it,” said Rooney, who is a member of both committees.

“The very fact that we’re getting cuts in exchange for raising the debt ceiling is a positive,” Rooney said.

With no idea what our Defense requirements will be, I sure would appreciate the added scrutiny. Per FOXNEWS "Cuts will be half Defense, half Entitlements", Democrats are equating the cuts to Defense to all Entitlements cuts. Shouldn't that be half Defense, half EACH Entitlement, if they are going to be equated?

“Rooney Wants to Examine Defense, Intelligence Cuts Before Deciding on Debt Deal”

Who cares about defense, we’ve got an economy to save!!!!!!!! No one is going to invade us...so why care about having a strong defense?

...and Republicans are calling this a good deal...

Let’s go back to 2008 spending first. Then we can talk about spending cuts.

This deal is just bad. Not only that it sets up a scenario where Republicans opposed to taxes will find themselves facing defense cuts if they don’t.

Why would Republicans vote to be blackmailed??

That’s the sick part, Pelosi and her Democrats can now pick up the slack of Republicans that vote no, unless all House Republicans say no to the changes in the bill.

This is worse than caving, this is caving twice. This bill sets up a scenario where they either raise taxes or cut defense/medicare.

The RINO-Dem Coalition might be able to pass this crap.

And the MSM will say the TEA Party wins??

hahahaha.... its so stupid all I can do is laugh

I don’t think defense cuts are bad. Do we really need to continue our occupation of Germany and Japan??

Hey, if you want real spending cuts, gotta look at the biggest programs... Soc Sec, Medicare/Medicaid, and Defense.

Typical. Scuttle defense (a legitmate Government function) and leave entitlements untouched. The fact is you could eliminate Defense altogether (which I’m sure most Dems would be all for) and STILL have a deficit. Unless we really address entitlements, we are sunk.

From what I understand these type of cuts will come in the 2nd round which will be decided by a commission.

In this deal “Defense” is defined Broadly to include Veterans Benefits. This should be questioned NOW,Before they agree to this
