A leader of a centrist group of House Democrats on Sunday said most of the groups members are likely support an emerging deal to raise the country's $14.29 trillion debt ceiling and cut deficits by up to $2.4 trillion over the next decade.
First, the debt ceiling deal thats just been tentatively agreed needs to pass the Senate and the House. Then, Republican and Democratic leaders will have to deal with the politically-charged question of who they appoint to the super committee of lawmakers who will decide what more spending to cut, or revenues to raise, to narrow the budget deficit by as much as $2 trillion over ten years.

As I said repeatedly, one of my greatest fears of this whole thing was Super Congress. I said watch out for the mechanisms that will force/coerce Congress to go along with them.
6 Dems
1 backstabbing rino.
Cuts in defense or medicare.
I Have to read to see the latest.
Of course there was a deal.
Mcconnell HELPED aid and abet the reputation of Obama the grand negotiator.
God help us.
Those that STILL think this deal a good thing...just wait and see what a nightmare has been created thanks to Traitors like Mcconnell.
Unless it’s DeMint, Paul and Lee for the GOP senators (which of course it won’t be) the committee won’t just be worthless, it’ll be dangerous.
super committee....what a joke....super turds, all of them
Yes. It is a brazen corruption, and further suppression of representative government.
Looks like McConnell agreed to the defense cuts demanded by Reid, Obama and Pelosi and sprung a surprise on Boehner at the last minute.
Actually, Paul’s probably a danger to the military budget, so I don’t think the GOP even has three good senators for the committee. (We know what Coburn would do if he were on it...)
“If the committee finds $1.5 trillion or more in savings, the enforcement mechanism would not be triggered. That’s because Republicans are insisting on a dollar-for-dollar match between deficit reduction and new borrowing authority, and $900 billion plus $1.5 trillion add up to $2.4 trillion. “
Now just what does that mean. Are the going to warp that into tax hikes and if they don’t get the tax hikes...scare tactics to freak out Americans will ensue???
dems: Chuckie Schummer, Barney Frank, Bernie Sanders
rinos: Scott Brown, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe
“centrist group of House Democrats”
Would you journalists get over this BS....there is no such thing as a Centrist Democrat.
If they don’t do something they’re going to be forced to do something else.
....we already know what a committee of 10 liberals and 2 “conservatives” is going to say.
This is waste of time.
Who knows?
Would they take the easy way out and find another $1.5T of phantom savings?
Would the Dems force the military and Medicare cuts to please their base and terrorize seniors just in time for the elections?
Would them Dems find a way to make it pure tax hikes to really please their base?
What I don’t see is a good outcome for the Republicans.
Hold the line. No ten year fornicating America plan.
“If they dont do something theyre going to be forced to do something else.”
LOL
What I dont see is a good outcome for the Republicans.

Amen....
I don’t think this present flock of R’s understand the D’s take no prisoners.
They have one thing the R’s lack. Solidarity.
The R’s (for the most part) still think they should act Civil and make nice so we can all ‘get along’.
“Homey don’t play that game” is the Dems answer to most R requests/suggestions etc etc...
Goes back to Bush I when they were demonizing him and saying Grandma etc would be lucky to afford cheap dog food for dinner.
The Bush camp seemingly took the approach that it was a subject that was to ridiculous to be challenged, and the ‘people’ would NEVER buy into such nonsense.....
We all to well know how that worked out.
6 RINOS and 6 Socialists Ratz will make up the committee .
It is frustrating to realize that your team plays like the Washington Generals.
Yeah, we need to know who is going to be on the super-Congress committee.
Gutting our defense department is simply not an option. If we can load it was strong conservatives and the Dems actually put at least a few gang-of-sixer/deficit reduction commission types on it then it could work out. Unfortunately, we can’t trust our own gang-of-six/deficit reduction committee folks, so we’d have to look elsewhere.
Either way, the whole thing is really just a big fat cop out.
There is one thing to consider. Obama has not exactly been an isolationist president. In fact he started his own new war, and his Secretary of Defense even blasted Europe for slashing their military too much. So in a way, Obama can’t afford massive defense cuts either.

For Boehner to have majority of the majority, he can only lose 119 GOPers. If 216 is the magic #, R’s need 97 D’s to help. Very TALL order.

If hawkish R’s are complaining about defense cuts, one wonders if this is the right trigger.
