ABC News has learned that Republicans and the White House have struck a tenative deal to raise the debt ceiling before the Aug. 2 deadline.
It's not done yet, but here is the framework of the tentative deal they have worked out, according to a source familiar with the negotiations:

Not me. Romney is the worst thing about politics. A man of no substance.
I don't think any serious person ever said it would be.
Pragmatists (not idealists) know that we are going to have to have much more power to really solve the debt problem. Having the House only is not enough.
However, to BLOCK Dems from implementing tactics which they've used for decades to grow Gov't so fast is a very significant move in the right direction IMO.
On top of that, this deal weakens Obama considerably which is a very large win...that moves us well along the path to achieving those significant gains we need in election '12.
touche
>>>dollar per dollar cut to increase
What year (or century) do these matching cuts occur?
What part of the government gets cut, specifically?
What happens if the Republicans don’t agree with the Democrats on what is considered a “valid cut”?
Until these cuts are made explicit, THEY HAVE TRICKED US AGAIN.
yup- what’s your plan genius???
Man, you really are logical. Amazing how simple it is, huh? But politicians aren’t simple.
Exactly. I didn't see this statement from you before I typed my last post...I think we're on the same page.
This gets Obama past Nov 2012 elections."
Isn't the MOST important thing we can get in this negotiation is to make sure this issue comes up again before the 2012 election? Why would we ever let them push it off the table?
This is hardly a win.
1 trillion in budget cuts over 10 years.
1.8 trillion more, decided by committee, or automatic across the board cuts IF the committee can’t come up with them. Over 10 years. We spent $3.7 TRILLION this year. If we save $2.8 trillion over the next 10 years, we’ll actually just INCREASE spending 6% less over that period of time than we would otherwise — and that assumes NO growth in the size of government! Actually, since the Fed Gov’t grows 8-10% a year, saving $2.8 Trillion over 10 years is a JOKE.
A Balanced Budget Amendment VOTE. But they DO NOT specify the LANGUAGE of the BBA. HOW would we arrive at the Balanced budget? COuld they increase taxes to achieve balance? Would spending be capped so that the Feds would be restricted from going over a certain amount of GDP? WOuld they be required to balance by spending cuts ALONE? Would THEY get to decide - or would We The People?
And speaking of caps — where does this compromise CAP the amount Washington can spend relative to GDP? Anywhere? The “Cut,Cap & Balance” capped it at 19.9% GDP. If there is no cap, then the politicians can still spend all they want with no restraint, no “governance,” no limit. And they know it.
This is all a charade — to get ALL of them thru the next election. From Obama to the Dems to the RINO’s in the House. And they’ll ALL blame the Tea Party Conservatives for being “obstructionists.” It’s a win/win for Washington. And a lose/lose for us.
But he did say upon adjourning today that the Senate would meet at 12-Noon EST on Sunday and vote at 1 PM EST.
I couldn't understand what he meant, but maybe "this" is what they'll be taking up?
“2.8 TRILLION?!?!?
WTH?!?!?!”
Harry Reid figured out a way recently to tack on another couple hundred billion in phony “cuts” by playing a new game with the 2011 baseline.
Obama gets his debt ceiling hike, Americans get the shaft.
Don’t completely rule out that this can’t come up before the election. If the economy continues to slide, projected tax receipts will dry up quickly and we might be back here quicker than Obama was hoping.
That’s why I include the latin phrase Prime Face in my intial response.
YES, I want $14T of cuts in the next two weeks or the GOP is history!! Cordially, Tea Party Strawman
Thanks for the warning, but Romney is better than Obama and if those are my choices, me and millions of others will choose Romney. I’d rather have Perry or someone else, but I’m not a fool who will take my ball and go home and whine about how how Romney isn’t “conservative” enough which would allow Obama to win. If you wish to play that game and guarantee Obama 4 more years, have at it.
‘Where’s the vote on the Balanced Budget amendment?’
That is part of the supposed deal.
Double dittos on that. The demoncRATs won after the pubbies again folded like the cheap empty suits they are.
More useless committees with “recommendations”.
BS!
We are fairly closely aligned. I hesitate to pass judgment on the plan until I see a few more details. Thanks for your clarifying comments!
