NEW YORK — The ceremony at the World Trade Center site marking the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks will be a solemn but stately event ...

President Barack Obama and Bloomberg will be joined by the leaders in charge during the 2001 attacks, including former President George W. Bush, former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and former New York Gov. George Pataki. Current New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie will also be there, he said.

Born, raised, fed and bred New York City boy - 57 years. Even lived in Manhattan for a time. Worked in and around those buildings for almost 20 years. Watched people I’m sure I was aquainted with jump.

The thought of Zer0 being there sickens me.

You just watch, there will be a faction in the crowd that will attempt to turn his presence into a party.

I totally agree with your sentiment. They should have been rebuilt, and even taller.

Obama is finally practicing civility—

No, he’s not. He wouldn’t dare try to keep Bush away.

0bamaa is not civil in any way. He’s a wicked bastard.

I agree--my comments were meant to be sarcastic.

I'm sure Obama would exclude Bush if he could--both because he hates Bush and because he wants to be the center of attention (and having a former President on hand will detract from that). I don't think there has been a case in US history before Obama of a President who so constantly attacked and insulted his predecessor. That reveals a lot about Obama's character.

I understand-thanks.

Yep, 0bama is a narcissist and hater. That’s a bad combination.

Bush will talk about sacrifice, remembrance, family, the victims, our military and God.

Obama will read about himself saying “I” 50 times, urge people to vote for him in 2012 because “he got Osama” single handedly, stress how we just need to talk to Al Queda, and have someone from the new Mosque praise allah.

Obama, Bloomberg, Schumer and Gillibrand should sit together on one side of the podium and Bush, Guilliani, Pataki and Christie on the other. Literally and figuratively, we know where the light weights will be!

Maybe we could get them to set up the podium in such a way that there is no room for a teleprompter. Make it into a huge news story that with the the TOTUS in place, there wouldn't be room for all of the families, survivors and guests. Obama would have to bow out, lest he look ridiculous trying to speak.

Really. The 3,000 dead people from the terrorist attacks cannot give speeches. Someone should speak for them -- and let's hope it's more than sound bytes, little quotes, and short poems.

Those lives snuffed out by terrorists mean something. Let the heartfelt and forthright speech givers speak.

SNIPPET from the article link in post no. 1:

"Speaking on his weekly radio show Friday on WOR-AM, Bloomberg said the lawmakers will read short poems or quotes. No speeches will be given."

As much as I would like for her to attend, as I believe that she would, she would have the unintential effect of moving much of the focus onto her rather than the occasion.

Because she has a “servant’s heart” she will not
attend for the reasons you state. Perhaps when
she is in office...

I’ve had my issues with Bush, but at least he was an American president, and he took more on the chin like a man than the current Oval Office occupant could dream of, not least of which was pointed fingers of responsibility for the September 11th attacks when even al Qaeda is clear that planning started in the Clinton administration. It’s more than regrettable that the people, vox populi, weren’t listened to about rebuilding the towers. We should have rebuilt them to the exact same appearance, but faster, better, and a few stories taller.

Welcome to New York again, President Bush. Thanks for your continuing leadership.

You think we’d be looking at a giant silver Islamic trophy and talking about Mosques if Giuliani was Mayor?

Absolutely not. We should never forget 9/11 and we should never forget the leaders who were strong at the time and in the aftermath. It is just too bad, tragic really, that America's Mayor Rudy Giuliani was trashed so badly on this forum 4 years ago that many of the best FReepers left, many to never return. National security for a strong America is the absolute top priority in my mind.

Having said that, I hear your outrage at the pitiful, insulting, so-called memorial to that horrific attack on our country and I agree it all amounts to an al Qaeda victory, especially since a U.S. president named Hussein will be using the 10th anniversary as yet another campaign event for himself.

I am hoping for the opposite... come on FDNY get it together... that a huge, solemn, tearful cheer will break out for President Bush.

Am I dreaming...??

I’m sorry but you have a blind spot.
Palin already tried this with an attempted upstage of Rolling Thunder this past Memorial Day.
She didn’t belong there except as a spectator.
The same goes for the 9/11 anniversary.
By the way, what is her anecdote about where she was and what she did on 9/11/01? I have never heard it.

I’m not hoping for it. But I won’t be a bit surprised if it happens.
