Woman Fears Eviction Over Social Security Checks

FREEDOM, Calif--

Thousands of people on the Central Coast are fearing the worst. Social Security offices are being flooded with phone calls about the crisis and one woman is being asked to pay her bills early, before her checks stop coming.

Sarah Franklin lives in Freedom and on Friday morning she got a call from the manager at the apartment complex she lives at, asking for rent early. She said they're afraid she won't have money to pay it next week if she doesn't get her social security check.

"It's just really scary," she said. "I feel like such a baby for crying but the thing is, I'm not by myself, there's other people."

Franklin lives in the Pajaro Vista Apartments, a government funded complex that charges rent based on what you get in social security. Franklin gets about $970 in social security, so her rent is about $250 a month.

It's the end of the month and she's basically out of cash so hearing the complex wanted next months rent early was quite a shock.

Have they? My Mom has direct deposit, and she hasn’t got her’s yet! This makes me worry for her sake! My daughter and my brother get disability help too, and so does my Step-Dad (a veteran as well)haven’t got theirs’ either! Of course, my Daughter and Brother get theirs’ in check form, they usually don’t get theirs’ until the 1st-3rd, unless they come over a holiday.

Most direct deposit checks still are made available on the third. The fact is that the computer transactions have been made already, but are not shown in the bank accounts as available until the third.

Wonder if “the people” knew about this when it was being sold and planned.

Then again, they were “doing the right thing to reduce green house gases and traffic congestion” while they were deceiving the taxpayers. Guess it makes it okay. :)

Yes! My check goes straight to the bank. I could be wrong, but I think that is mandatory now.

Here’s the story about the people mover and other pricey public transportation systems. Looks like public transportation is considered a great success if it reaches a 25% rider funding threshhold.

As RegulatorCountry says, it is a beautiful area, perfect for a romantic B&B weekend. Some of the back roads inland, like from Cambria toward Paso Robles, rate in my book as good as anything in the backwoods of New England.

“”I don’t get mine until the last Thursday of the month...””

No one has bothered to point out that social security benefits are sent or deposited according to one’s birthday. They are NOT all done at the same time of the month so mentioning that the 2nd of August doesn’t apply to everyone would have been helpful to alleviate anxiety. It looks like there are people in this country who don’t understand that.

My husband’s birthdate is on the 11th and he receives his the following week on a Wednesday. Mine is on the 28th so I receive mine before the end of the month on a Wednesday as waiting for the same formula would put mine in the next month.

Not sure how they figure checks or deposits going out on the 2nd...What would the birthdates be of those folks?
Everyone I know gets theirs the week following....

I see Post #79 has an explanation of the benefits paid by the 1st. I didn’t know that. See what you can learn at FR???

“”It puts to bed the entire lie that there’s a “social security trust fund” or “lock box” that the dems have been telling us all these years.””

Excellent point - I hadn’t thought of that...Hillary also said years ago that Social Security was solvent - remember?
That’s when there was a recording on the Social Security website that there would be a shortage of funds in such and such a year.

Until 8 or 9 years ago everyone on SS or SS disability got their check on the 3rd.

I misspoke when I said Thursday, my birthday was yesterday the 29th, and I get my check on the last Wednesday of the month.

There is plenty of money to cover. My mother was a college educated woman, and every time the SS fear mongers rattled their chains, she would panic.

Short answer, no, they don’t get it. It sucks that no private sector jobs are being constructed anymore.

Since the rent is based upon her Soc Sec ‘income’, it might be phrased in such a way that if her month's check is zero, then her rent would be zero also; so try and get her (and others) to pay in advance, based on their last check's amount...with no refunds.

That would assume management was stupid enough to believe the hype, on top of being stupid enough to write the rental agreement that way. OTOH, it is a government funded operation....
