Senate Republicans want a 60-vote threshold for a debt-limit bill to pass the chamber, but it's actually Democrats who are enforcing the filibuster on their own legislation, insisting on delaying a vote until 1 a.m. Sunday morning.
Republicans offered to let the vote happen Friday night, just minutes after the chamber voted to halt a House Republican bill. All sides expect Democrats' bill will fail too, and the GOP said senators might as well kill both at the same time so that negotiations could move on to a compromise.
"We would be happy to have that vote tonight," Sen. Mitch McConnell, Republicans' leader, offered.
But Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid objected, even though the vote would occur on his own bill. He instead said the chamber would have to run out the full procedural clock, which means a vote in the early hours Sunday morning.

They want to keep the crisis going, so TV talking heads will not start discussing why Obama and Holder sold guns to foreign and domestic criminals.

Weve Been Played for Saps, Folks: Boehner Bill Will Become Reid Bill
(and the Boehner bill, even BEFORE Reid amends it
will still grow the debt by 9.7 Trillion over 10 years !!!)
Reid countered on the Senate floor that he'd be happy to have a simple, majority vote, like in the House, and McConnell scoffed. "Let me say this is almost an out-of-body experience," he said.

good point!
that is already a bigger crime than Watergate or Iran Contra.
i cannot imagine the nonstop 24/7 coverage if it was GOP.
Then there’s this:
“In lieu of a Senate vote, House Republicans themselves will introduce and then vote to kill the Reid plan on Saturday afternoon as a way to try to force negotiations into the next phase.”
The dems lose. They lose. They lose. And that’s the way it goes. The exploding heads from this will NOT be pretty, but oh, well.
So the House Republicans need to have HR 1848 (The Connie Mack Penny Plan) ready to go right back to the Senate moments after they get the Reid Bill. It is ready for vote, and it is getting more and more support as the option of choice now by both House and Senate Republicans, Tea Partiers, and even some Democrats.
See: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2756239/posts for more information on that House Bill that is ready for a vote.
I think we should do the 1 cent solution by Mack!
“So when Schumer and Reid and who ever else it was, jumped on TV last night and said McConnell would not talk about the bill coming forward...they lied”
There is an inherent plausibility to such claims, as it’s hard for people to understand that filibusters can be used to expedite rather than delay procedure, that is, if the thing you’re filibustering is itself a delaying tactic.

Shortly followed by a box office bomb of a movie starring Sean Penn as a poor Mexican bean farmer, previously unjustly deported by the Reagan administration, struck by an errant bullet, and Meryl Streep as the brave ATF agent who blew the whistle.
GOOD ONE!! I love it!
Should read “Obama and Holder sold guns to foreign and domestic criminals, Democratic majority Senate Approves”
This current Senate wouldn’t vote to impeach O’bummer even if he killed his own mother.
Technically, they might have been right. For Reid to invoke cloture, they then have two days of debate before the cloture vote.
McConnell offered to waive the 2-day debate, and just have the cloture vote. Reid asked if he’d waive the cloture vote and just allow an up-or-down majority vote. McConnell said no, of course.
So McConnell’s offer did, technically, prevent “talk” about the bill, since it would waive the debate time before the cloture vote.
Get to work on that script because it has “Oscar” written all over it already.

Really, because I was regretting not making Streep a lesbian, and totally forgot to mention Penn’s son has cerebral palsy.
