Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid said on Friday his budget legislation would increase the nation's borrowing authority until March, 2013 and reiterated that he would not accept a short-term debt limit increase as Republicans are insisting.
Earlier in the day, Reid called on Republican Leader Mitch McConnell to sit down with him to work out a compromise for cutting federal spending and raising the debt limit by the August 2 deadline.

Blatant, pure political thuggery a la Las Vegas and Chicago. Boehner and conservative congressional pubbies - it’s up to you to HOLD THE LINE.
Hairy Roid needs to understand that the last thing America needs is to borrow more money.
I divorced my first wife over that kind of crap, why can’t I divorce this idiot.
Harry Reid represents 1/2 of Nevada, John Kerry represents 1/2 of Massachusetts and John McCain represents 1/2 of Arizona. All have been in the Senate for too long to claim any link to their actual constituents and 2 of them were rejected by the majority of Americans to lead the nation.
Stay strong Tea Party.
Obamacare doesn't kick in until after 2012, the stimulus was written to provide payouts just before the election.
Only 22 Repubs voted to hold the line - Not even my so-called Tea Party rep, Tim Walburg, or Thaddeus McCotter (who threw his hat in the ring for POTUS because there aren’t enough Conservatives running), and Allen West who I thought would be faithful to the Cause all voted Yes! They all need to be thrown out and start over. I should run because I wouldn’t know anything and I wouldn’t vote Yes for anything that wasn’t constitutional - actually the job sounds pretty easy. I would be voting NO 99% of the time. Can we find 300 others in Congress to do the same? The Spartans could....
They all understand it - they don't care because the real goal is to do away with America as we know it and ensure a despot-ruled society. Everything they do has been well-thought out for decades.
It is not they who need to understand - it is We The People who need to understand them...Until we purge them from government, we remain on the brink and the battle will never end (unless of course they are victorious).
Boner hold the line, hell, he will thrown in another 4 trillion, if Reid and obummmer just agree to not make him cry.
Soooo,
Is Boehner going to roll over like Reids bitch?
Not if they are chosen by universal-franchise voting.
Bye-bye “Triple A”.
Conservatives weren’t organized enough.
I called Walberg’s office 3 times yesterday and was told that the bulk of the calls coming in were in favor of supporting the bill. In the end he supported it because it was a dead bill but protected him in the district.
Walberg does a lot of actual spending cutting without notice and our choices are “republicans” like Schwarz and marxists like Schauer.
For the people defending West and others elected because of the Tea Party movement...you should compare their comments to those of Olympia Snowe when she single handly gave us Obamacare . She voted that bill out of committee.
It’s not perfect, blah blah blah....
Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES should this be allowed to pass...I don’t care if we default, don’t pay our bills and cease functioning as a nation. I do not wish to give those asshats any cover through the next election for this epic failure on their parts.
Last night watching BOR, as I knew Ingraham was hosting, she had a bimbo from Walpo on who let go a diabribe about who was to blame, of course, George Bush and all these problems were handed off to the jackassinchief. Her face actually contorted in vile as she spouted her crap. I am so sick of the dems and their media whores I am at the point of exhaustion. No ideas, no plans nothing but let’s bash the GOP and look for more borrowing. I never hear anyone retort to the antiBush commentary: and who was in charge of congress the last two years of his presidency? Nada one ever points that out. No one points out the jackass and his party have yet to come up with a budget, in over 800 days either. Lastly, in 2010, the most recent national election, the people’s house was taken over by a group who said they wanted financial stability, less government and no new taxes. That is change you can believe in for sure.
The American Thinker has an article out today which ends perhaps it is time to start over....I think he is right.
Even if Reid gets his wish and the debt ceiling is extended until 2013, there’s no guarantee it won’t have to be raised before then.
Revenues are running well below expectations with no trend signaling improvement. They could blow through $2.4 trillion in no time at this pace.
Democrats have to see the train wreck coming, but they can’t admit it because then they would get blamed for it (Republicans, too).
Their only chance at survival is to keep the Ponzi scheme going for as long as possible. This is going to squeeze the middle class terribly.
There’s no escaping a reckoning, but it would have been much less severe had steps been taken years ago.
I feel bad for young people who can’t find jobs to fit their education level or are underemployed. The American dream is getting much harder to achieve.
Thank goodness for the GOP class of 2010. Without them, we would get another wasteful porkulus.
BO and the DNC need those trillions of borrowed dollars to pump up a phony “recovery” before the 2012 election. Time’s running short for all those “shovel ready” jobs that some how never materialize.
I really think we need a default, a gov shutdown and whatever else it takes. These people do not understand the word “NO” ... the say word they used on us when we wanted to enter into discussion on health care. If “our side” doesn’t take this issue to the mat, then we’ve only caved again and kicked the can down the road ... and one day, that can just won’t kick anymore. Better to face the music now than later. This out of control situation is Obama’s free spending fault and history will lay it in his lap ... the numbers are the facts.
Why doesn’t Boehner (or Cantor if Boehner can’t avoid crying) call a presser and say:” The constitution states all fiscal bills must originate in the House. The House has sent the senate the CC&B bill and it did not get a vote. CC&B is the House position. In addition, the House has sent the Senate a 2012 budget which, again, the Senate has refused to take up. The House will accept no debt ceiling limit beyond 9/30/11 and will approve no continuing resolutions through 2012. When the senate decides to do its job, give us a call. Until then, the House stands adjourned”.
There wwas a chart one of the congressmen had up during his speech on the floor which showed that Obama’s share of the debt projected, after his 4 years will be 4 times that of Bush and in 1/2 the time in office.
Another chart showed that something like 80% of the total debt racked up over the years has been compiled by Democratic congresses.
Republicans don’t spend. They pay.
