First, he needs to decide if he is for or against:
1. Abortion of children
2. Traditional marriage
3. Open Borders
In just the last few weeks, Perry has been all over the political map. One day he talks conservative, the next he talks to the left of Obama.
Hardly.
But those who want to bruise him have tossed him around in the MSM and on political comment sites.
He's been very clear as to these positions. Regarding the marriage issue that people have pulled out of thin air recently, it was quite clear that he was talking about a state's right to set laws that aren't laid out by the US Constitution. The US Constitution does not define marriage, therefore it is up the state to decide who can enter into these contracts. He was not taking a position on the issue of marriage, although he is very much for marriage being between a man and a woman. But, if one is against his answer, then they somehow feel that the US Constitution defines marriage. You're either for the 10th Amendment, or you're not.
In other words, he took a very principled position.
The difference between you and Perry, iowamark, is that Perry, as Governor, has to find a way to ACTUALLY SAVE lives and you only have to find a way to make yourself look Holier Than Thou even if you ACTUALLY LOSE millions of lives.
Perry's position is that, under the Tenth Amendment, the State of Texas, and every other State, retains the right to regulate abortion.
That is your cue to jump up on your sanctimonious soapbox and start falsely squealing that that means that Perry is for abortion in, say, Massachusetts.
In the Real World that Perry functions in, after the Federal judicial power grab of Roe v. Wade, the only thing standing between Federal power to ALLOW ALL abortions and State powers to limit ANY abortion is the Tenth Amendment. You, however, seem to be totally clueless about that fact.
In the Fantasy World that you functions in, iowamark, all you have to do is attack the Tenth Amendment, Federalize all abortion and then have your Fairy Godmother wave her Magic Wand and have an Anti-Abortion Amendment magically appear in the Constitution.
In the Real World that Perry functions in, the polls show that 60% of all voters would NOT abolish abortion. If there is ever an "Abortion Amendment", it would therefore be a PRO-Abortion Amendment.
In the Real World that Perry functions in, the polls show that the majority of voters in 37 out of the 50 States would NOT abolish abortion. If there is ever an "Abortion Amendment", it would therefore be a PRO-Abortion Amendment.

"Neither Congress nor any State shall make any law prohibiting or restricting the free exercise a woman's right to an abortion under any circumstances" ..... Twenty-eigth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

If abortion is totally Federalized, that only INCREASES the number of abortions by the millions as there will be NO State checks at all in ANY State.
Yet, there you are, attacking Perry for standing up for the Tenth Amendment: The ONLY protection and the last hope that an unborn life has in the State of Texas or in any other State.

Perry's position is that, under the Tenth Amendment, the State of Texas, and every other State, retains the right to regulate abortion. The opposite of that is the FEDERALIZATION of all abortion law.

Perry saves as many unborn lives as he possibly can in the United States of America, as it actually exists in the Real World, in accordance with the realities of the U.S. Constitution.
You, iowamark, attack Perry for not saving as many lives as you fantasize about saving if you were Emperor of the United States, with absolute power to enact any amendment to the Consitution you dreamed of just as soon as you asked your Fairy Godmother to wave her Magic Wand.
