Reid Says Senate Will Vote On Boehner Plan After House Thursday Night

The Senate will take up, and vote down, House Speaker John Boehner’s bill to raise the federal debt ceiling immediately after its anticipated House passage Thursday evening, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said.

“As soon as the House completes its vote tonight, the Senate will move to take up that bill. It will be defeated,” Reid said, citing a letter sent last night to Boehner in which all 53 Democratic Caucus members vowed to vote against the measure if it passes. “No Democrat will vote for a short-term Band-Aid that would put our economy at risk and put the nation back in this untenable situation a few short months from now.”

Boehner was still working to round up votes Thursday. But both parties now expect his measure to narrowly pass over Democratic opposition.

Republicans argue Boehner’s bill is the only option for averting default before the August 2 deadline to raise the debt ceiling. Reid intends to amend it with aspects of his own, alternative proposal and send the bill back to the House. He will need help from Senate Republicans and in particular Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to alter the bill.

McConnell touted his support for Boehner’s bill, but aides acknowledged he has been talking with Vice President Joe Biden, who is attempting to broker a compromise about the debt ceiling. McConnell’s office said the two men are not negotiating an endgame, but a Democratic aide disputed that claim.

I believe it’s been ready for a signature since Boehner played golf with Obama.

It does not matter what the House passes.

The evilcrats are determined to let August 2nd happen so they can blame the pubbies through their mouthpieces in the LSM.

They could care less about what is for the good of the country that they loathe and are destroying every day of their miserable lives.

I didn’t know House was on Thursday nites. But I’m not surprised to think that the Dems would put a TV show before the nation’s business.

That would explain why they haven’t been able to come up with their own plan, or a PHREAKING BUDGET of any kind for the last two years.

A week and a half ago... boehner was interviewed by Brett Baier... and boehner stated that mcconnel’s plan is their fall back plan if all else fails... they will pass that bill and give obama a total victory. I hope that I am wrong but...

Reid intends to amend it with aspects of his own, alternative proposal and send the bill back to the House. He will need help from Senate Republicans and in particular Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to alter the bill.

And therein lies Reid's problem. Where does he come up with the close to $3 Trillion in cuts to cover the extra 18 months of debt ceiling increase? The House bill has already picked all the low hanging fruit and Reid will need to either cut entitlements or raise taxes.

Remember the extra $400 billion Obama wanted? Well Reid will need at least that much. I think Reid will bring back CCB.
