Advisers and elected allies of Texas Gov. Rick Perry tell Whispers that the Republican will join the crowded field of presidential hopefuls by the end of August...

Perry's entry will be a "game changer," said Mark Meckler, cofounder of the Tea Party Patriots, the nation's largest umbrella group for the movement. "It changes the equation because he has a record to run on." That record, added Meckler, is the "Texas miracle" of growth and economic prosperity....

Polls show substantial support for Perry. Gallup today has him winning in the South and within striking distance of leading the pack in the Midwest and East. [Read more about the 2012 presidential election.]

One very close adviser said that Perry keeps in contact with key governors from around the nation, like Barbour, Daniels, and even Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, who runs the other state with a good employment and economic record. There's even talk that if he wins the nomination, he'd pick one of those three as a runningmate.

What was the alternative ?

Endorsing no one if you don't believe the candidate is a conservative.

If Perry had had a legit and bonafide Conservative alternative opponent (like Michael Williams), she’d have endorsed him.

You mean like she endorsed JD Hayworth over John McCain?

It's obvious that this won't be a perfect election again.

I worked on Reagan's campaign in ‘83 and clearly remember the same sniping and criticism of Ron during his ‘79-'80 campaign. He was a former Democrat, accused of siding with Libs in California, It's almost the exact parallel with what I am hearing about Perry.

We all know what a wonderful surprise that the alleged Liberal leaning Republican Governor from California became, don't we?

Perry is a solid Christian, Military man and dedicated public servant. It is easy to cut him down when so many people are ignorant to what he does in any given day. In spite of that, he is still dedicated to his job and His record proves that he is not as bad as some try to project.

I certainly do not buy that rhetoric in any way shape or form. I also happen to be Military and there is a special quality to an individual like that. Those who fail to understand that, are the ones who will lose the most, if they manage to destroy a truly good man.

Obama may be your reward.

Perry has most certainly NOT been a consistent and reliable Conservative.

Let's look at his record. He:

Has a 100% pro-life record according the Texas Right to Life. He signed laws defunding Planned Parenthood and requiring women view sonograms before aborting. He supported Texas' sodomy law and signed a state DOMA law and has defended the Boy Scouts' policy on excluding homosexuals from their organization.

In 2008, Texas not only had a balanced budget but 11 billion dollar surplus. Cut taxes on businesses in 2008 and 2009. Cut property taxes.

He has a signed a loser-pay tort reform law.

He has pushed for legislation banning sanctuary cities.

"Endorsing no one if you don't believe the candidate is a conservative."

That's exactly what I did in '08 after Thompson dropped out. None of the candidates were worthy.

"You mean like she endorsed JD Hayworth over John McCain?"

Her endorsement was showing loyalty to the man who chose her to be his running mate. Sadly, that loyalty is a one-way street with RINOs like McCain. Speaks more to her character than his. Hayworth, unfortunately, wasn't the right one to take down Johnnie. John Shadegg would've been better.

You aren’t seriously implying Perry will be like Reagan ? Hell, Perry isn’t even like John Connally for that matter. As I said, his record is there and isn’t “Solid Conservative”, he’s just a rank opportunist. Reagan was no opportunist and was at the forefront of the Conservative movement going into the 1980 election.

We have a Reagan for 2012. Her name is Sarah Palin.

Funny, how that excuse didn't work of Rick Santorum when he backed Arlen Spector, isn't it?

She lobbied to McCain's VP long before he asked her to be. She was more than willing to compromise on principle to get ahead politically, knowing she would have to support acts TARP if she joined the ticket.

Thompson was no more or less conservative than Perry.

Palin while she was in office was no more or less conservative than Perry, either. She had plenty of flaws, most notable passing a windfall profit tax on oil companies that Republicans are trying to repeal.

fieldmarshaldj, I too love Sarah Palin, but PHYCHO-FREEP just painted a picture of how the Perry camp is moving toward announcing. Can you do the same for Palin? I don’t see it.

I stand by my prediction: Palin will stay out and instead endorse Perry.

That's quite a statement. I'm sure you can prove that right?

We'll be waiting.........in the meantime stfu and don't make a fool of yourself......Oh wait.....

You got that right. We have several others I'd say that about as well.

If the conservatives split the vote and give us Romney, I'll have to think long and hard about what to do.

Texas Governor Perry's Vaccination Mandate

Kinky Friedman lost the Texas gubernatorial election in November, 2006, but Governor Perry has implemented an executive order that sounds like a Kinky Friedman idea. It requires an immunization for some sexually transmitted diseases -- for girls entering the sixth grade. The governor has made a number of incorrect assumptions, most of which are pointed out in the articles below. But above all, the Governor presumes that the state can usurp the authority of parents, just because the kids are enrolled in public schools.

Rick Perry and Sarah Palin are my choices..If people listen to some around here we will end up with another 4 year's of the Muslim Communist..If you don't want Perry then who cares we will keep him as Governor of Texas..And BTW if Perry is so bad then how in the heck did he get reelected three times..If you don't want him we will be glad to keep him..

Texas has the nation’s largest rural population, with more than 3.6 million rural residents in 2000..Now if Perry was so bad then how in the heck did he keep getting reelected..

My personal opinion is this: If she weren’t going to run, she’d have said so by now (hence releasing her supporters to go to another candidate of their choice). She doesn’t play games or go by the media timetable.
