F-35C Launches to New Milestone
From: USNavyVisualNews | Jul 27, 2011 | 664 views
LAKEHURST, N.J. (July 27, 2011) An F-35C test aircraft piloted by Lt. Christopher Tabert launches from a steam catapult for the first time. CF-3 is the designated carrier suitability test aircraft. The F-35C carrier variant of the Joint Strike Fighter is distinct from the F-35A and F-35B variants with its larger wing surfaces and reinforced landing gear for greater control in the demanding carrier take-off and landing environment. The F-35C is undergoing test and evaluation at NAS Patuxent River before eventual delivery to the fleet. (U.S. Navy video/Released)
Ahhh... I can smell it from here.
How’d they get those trees to grow on the deck of that carrier? :)
FINALLY.....direct visual evidence that pigs CAN fly.
There is an old rule of thumb that if a fighter aircraft looks good, it is. I have questions about the F-35.
Cool, vultures row and everything!
How did they get the runway to move at 25kts for the proper launch wind speed?
Looks like the F35 could take off sans catapult, tons of thrust!
Roger Ball! Let’s go to the ship.
The Navy will never see the F-35 due to cuts. The Air Force will also be lucky to have any delivered.
Also, the A-10 Thunderbolt 'Warthog' was incredibly ugly ... and performed it's close air support role almost flawlessly. The F-117 sure isn't the prettiest fighter around either - but the Iraqis couldn't even target it while it bombed downtown Baghdad in '91.

Aww come on - you should have seen the one that lost! The Boeing model looked like a warthog.
Family member is at Pax flight testing - these are pretty cool machines.
I believe Eglin is getting its delivery - folks down there are worked up about the noise level.
I laugh at that, having lived on Eglin during the 60s, underneath the B-52 landing/takeoff flight pattern. THAT was noise that those complaining weenies can’t even dream about!

Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.
My vote goes to the YF-23 Black Widow.
It’s pretty heavy so it needs all that thrust.
When they actually launch one from an actual carrier, ping me.
This is just testing nonsense.
“Howd they get those trees to grow on the deck of that carrier? :)
“
It’s an Air Force boat?
The nose and front part of the plane..looks like a dead ringer for the Bell X-1..which took Chuck Yeager through the sound barrier..
Reminds me of the night I was driving along a road near an AF landing strip with my sunroof back and the radio blaring. Since I had the radio up, I didn't notice the increasing sound of the B-52 approaching for landing, until it was directly overhead, about 400 feet up. It was such a sudden overwhelming of my senses, not only the noise but how the flashing lights filled up the sunroof, I almost went off the road into the ditch despite making every attempt not to let that happen!
My brother said he was outside once when one came in low over him, he said it was so overwhelming that it wouldn't surprise him if some half-brains out there would assume they had been abducted by aliens.
