New Boehner Version (Cut Cap and Balance it ain't)
NRO ^ | 7/27/11 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 07/27/2011 3:19:03 PM PDT by hatfieldmccoy

We’re hearing it now cuts $917 billion over ten years under the more recent CBO baseline. So under $1 trillion. On the other hand, the cuts are apparently more front-loaded: $20 billion in real cuts in the first year.

As I understand it, the one to one relationship = cuts to an increase in the debt ceiling == will require Obama to come before Congress for another debt increase before elections are held in 2012. That is something that Obama really does not want because the fight at that time will be even bloodier than this one.

That all sounds so reasonable, until one remembers that we’re always told that, and there’s always “an election coming.”

I’ve always said the GOP would sell us down the river.

The link gives a stark look into reality:

You are probably right, but the the Republicans in congress have lost the trust of the base, and the people. They continually allow the Democrats to define the argument. During the continuing resolution debate they caved, and said this was the important fight, and yet here they are caving again. We have watched them kowtow to the Democrats for far too long. Someone needs to start standing up for conservative ideals and this country. They have made this mess and they are going to have to live with it.

You couldn’t buy advertiting like this...

Have they looked at the Earned Income Tax Credit? This is welfare, tax refunds to those who don't pay taxes.

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

"Since enactment in 1975, Congress has expanded the federal EITC with bi-partisan support. In tax year 2009, the EITC provided nearly $58 billion in reduced or eliminated tax liability and cash refunds to more than 25 million low-income families."

No point in making it easy ‘for 2012”..we want this thing going on right about tax time in 2012...just before the election.

I agree with Owen that this gets us out of the immediate crisis.

We need to pass it.

HOWEVER, we MUST also cut $4 TRILLION total to avoid a credit downgrade. As long as we get a promise by the Dems to do that ASAP, this is fine.

But, we need substantial cuts.

I have my hopes for CCB to move forward, but it’s not realistic despite the fact it’s the only plan now that fixes EVERYTHING.

I think the problem is:

What bill can Boehner pass that will be voted on and signed into law?

If nothing gets signed, it will be the conservatives fault in the media. If it is not enough, the conservatives will revolt and not let it go forward, and then be at fault in the media. If it is strong enough for the conservatives, then it wont be introduced in the Senate, and it will be the conservatives fault in the media.

We will very possibly get the credit downgrade NOW no matter WHAT we do....Its our DEBT that is already so high.

The only possibility to avert a “credit downgrade” is to demonstrate that we can as a government ( read Bipartisan) MOVE IN THE DIRECTION of cuts.

What plan would a more “conservative” speaker be able to get through the Senate and the Pres?

Your “real man” would still have only HALF of congress, and NO SENATE, AND NO PRESIDENCY. short of trashing out the constitution, your ‘real man” would be in the SAME place as Boehner. We can twist and shout all we want, but reality says we don’t have the Power.

That's a cowards argument. Look what we accomplished in 2010. Look what Palin accomplishes without even being in the race. 2012 is right around the corner and the Senate and Presidency are on the line. Obama lives in don't-call-my-bluff fear. We've never had a more powerful position than we have right now. Even the Reagan landslide pales in comparison to the conservative influence barely held at bay today. Advocate cowering powerless all you want ... the people I respect are standing up right now, and I pray they hold the line.

Give me a break. This is all political posturing.

America is screwed and we all know it.

We have been sold up and down the river.

Somebody in the GOP needs to come with a strategy for this “we’re already against it even though you haven’t passed it yet” BS...

As galling as the EITC is, that money goes directly into the economy ASAP. For anyone running a business, the EITC is consumer demand. Not just retailers, but a lot of service businesses. Anyone sitting there with receivables knows how many people will wait until they get their *refund* to pay their bill.

If the GOP is blamed for putting low income people into total poverty, we will have all out Communism by popular demand and Greece-style riots in the streets. They will come gunning for conservatives, let alone elect any.

If these cuts were easily done, they would have already been.

We are so far into this command and control, centralized financing of the entire economy that it is like a tumor that has infiltrated major blood vessels and organs. Surgery could kill the patient. I hear so many yelling for that, I can only conclude they think they have nothing left to lose.

We are not going to get any quick and clean resolution to this horrendous mess. We have to hope it only gets _somewhat_ messier instead of all out collapse, which is going to see many, many people broken beyond belief for longer than anyone can imagine. Survival is going to be beyond beans, bullets and gold if that happens.

Be careful what we wish for.

Good point, Yogafist
The Republicans have lost the support of their base.
I checked in with the County Auditor and went to the website of the WA Secretary of State to check in about getting on the Congressional ballot for a third party. There are a lot of hoops but the issues part will be simple but as Ronald Reagan observed, not easy.
Boehner and his liberal Republican friends cannot explain the monkey math of the budget scam they are proposing. And unless there are real reforms, we will see hyperinflation in 6 months. Check the price of gold and other commodities. There is adequate supply but the value of the dollar has crashed. The corporate budgets should be checking with the divisions/departments in September, the Budget committees should have proposals by the end of October, and the Board decides the final version in November.
And the Layoffs and Shutdowns will be massive.
Only real cuts and less taxation can avert a return to the Great Depression.

Palin is going to announce she is running for President. In this climate she might just have a chance.

People are tired of the old regime. Republicans are a failed party. Here comes the change.
